Groups of diners, who took over reserved tables, brought a mock menu to the high-end restaurant to send a message about climate change and animal cruelty.
Animal Rebellion is an animal justice and climate movement with the stated goal of forcing government action toward a plant-based food system. Their justification for introducing such a system is the impact of animal agriculture on climate change, species extinction and ecosystem damage.
Their mock menu outlines the environmental costs of items served on the restaurant’s real menu, including steak and beef.

A spokesperson for Gordon Ramsay Restaurant said in a statement, “Everyone is entitled to their opinions and beliefs. However, to force your way into the restaurant, disrupting the hard working staff doing their job and spoiling the evening of guests who have waited months for their reservation is grossly inappropriate and grossly disrespectful.”

“Despite Gordon Ramsay serving food costing a minimum of £155 ($184.00) per person, over two million people rely on food banks in this cost of living crisis,” he said. “Instead of restaurants making huge profits at the expense of animals, workers, and our climate, we need to feed everyone by supporting farmers and fishing communities in the transition to a plant-based food system.”
Animal Rebellion also said, “Plant-based food systems require 75% less farmland to grow food, allowing us to feed millions of additional people without relying on the exploitative and inefficient animal farming industry. This is the answer to the cost of living and climate crisis.”

“I’m disappointed, because my understanding is that her daughter is vegan or exploring veganism, and she seems open to that, so for her to take that step back and do that and make fun of animal life like that is really disappointing to me. ,” explained Simmons.
Tucker says it’s important to know when people enter the vegan world for profit versus compassion.
“I think in terms of this individual, he probably entered the space for profit and not from a compassionate standpoint,” Tucker said. “This little example with the goat just shows his character.”
