Netflix’s reassuring statement will act as a savior for Harry and Meghan, who recently lost their podcast deal with Spotify. The decision to terminate the agreement was reportedly “mutual” and noted in a joint statement from both parties.

Losing the deal means the two won’t earn nearly the entire amount agreed upon when they sign the deal in 2020. It’s produced just 13 hours of content, mostly focused on the pair’s podcast series.

After the termination of the deal was announced, sources speculated that Spotify parted ways with Sussex because the podcast was not fulfilling its potential.

“Even though ‘Archetypes’ did well and won a few awards, when you do a deal like this, to have only one series over that period is not good,” the source said, per Page Six.

Just as the two were reeling from the Spotify hit, their application to trademark the name “Archetype” was rejected by the US Patent and Trademark Office.

According to Daily Mailthe pair have applied to trademark the name for their “Archetype” podcast series, which focuses on women’s issues and launches in 2021.

However, the application was rejected due to “possible confusion” with an existing trademark owned by Archetypes LLC, an Arizona-based company. Archetypes LLC previously patented a trademark for its collection of books and articles on “nutrition, fitness, sexuality, and psychological self-improvement,” among other things.

However, the failure to secure the trademark does not appear to be permanent, as the couple’s lawyers have requested an additional three months to refine their application.

Since losing their Spotify deal, there has been speculation that the couple may face challenges in managing their huge expenses.

The Sussexes are currently paying a hefty mortgage on their sprawling Tuscan-style property, which they acquired for $14.7 million in June 2020, in addition to other financial obligations.

They are also responsible for annual property taxes of nearly $200,000, along with covering staff salaries and the cost of maintaining their homes. Their private security detail costs an estimated $2 million annually. Furthermore, Harry’s ongoing legal battle with the British press has resulted in huge legal fees.

Despite their money woes, the source maintains that the former royals aren’t “broke, but they need to keep spending their money instead of saving it.”
