A Florida grandmother accused of conspiring with her dentist son to kill her son-in-law in a sinister contract killing plot was arrested moments before she boarded a one-way flight to Vietnam, shocking body camera footage showed Wednesday.

“Oh, here we go again,” Adelson told the officer.
Adelson’s arrest comes just a week after his son Charlie Adelson was convicted of hiring two hitmen to kill his brother-in-law and FSU professor Dan Markel in 2014.
Dressed in a blue t-shirt and gray hoodie — the same clothes he was wearing in his mugshot — police began asking Adelson to see his passport.
While the police were getting the passport, Adelson was told that he was being held for Markel’s murder.
When an officer went to take her phone out of her hand, the convicted killer’s mother resisted, pulling the phone away, saying her lawyer said “don’t.”
“I don’t want to give it to you,” Harvey Adelson said on behalf of his wife. “Why do I have to give it to you?”

Miami Dade police told the couple that the phone was evidence in the case before the Adelson family began cooperating.
Adelson pleaded with officials to let her husband come with her.
“My husband is almost 80 years old. He can’t come with me?” he asked the officer, who then denied the request.
She finally tells her husband to order an Uber before kissing him while in handcuffs.
“You made a mistake,” said Harvey Adelson. “That’s two mistakes. Please.”
Adelson was then paraded through the airport in front of confused travelers.

The 27-minute video then shows him sitting in emotionless horror, staring blankly ahead in the backseat of a patrol car.
He then appears in the prison parking garage for his processing before the video ends.
Adelson made his first appearance in Leon County Court on November 21, 2023, where he was formally charged with first-degree murder, conspiracy and solicitation in connection with Markel’s death.
Markel was shot in the head inside his garage in Tallahassee.

At the time of the FSU law professor’s murder, he was in the midst of a bitter custody battle with Donna Adelson’s daughter, Wendi.
Prosecutors shared that Donna Adelson “hated” Markel and that emails with her daughter showed she was “desperate to find a way” to stop the law professor’s “aggressive” efforts to move her two grandchildren from Tallahassee to South Florida.
Days before Adelson’s arrest, he discussed “dealing with the situation” — with plans to either kill himself or flee to a non-extradition country — in a call with his son following his guilty verdict, according to an affidavit obtained by Law & Crime.
“Donna Sue Adelson has substantial financial resources to accomplish this,” the affidavit added.

Adelson allegedly revealed new details in his attempt to flee the county in a Nov. 7, 2023 jailhouse call to his son.
“We’ve seen it over and over because things change. If there is an extradition from Vietnam? Because we, we’ve looked all over the place, I mean, I can go to Korea and China, but there’s no extradition, but looking for a place where there’s no extradition,” Adelson said according to a recording released by ABC News.
Her 47-year-old dentist son is serving a life sentence for arranging a murder-for-hire through his then-girlfriend, Katie Magbanua, who hired her ex-husband and father of her children, Sigfredo Garcia, and his friend, Luis Rivera – both- two members of the Latin King gang – to carry out the horrific attack.

Magbanua and Garcia are serving life sentences after being found guilty in October 2019.
Rivera is serving a 19-year sentence after pleading guilty to second-degree murder and testifying against others in 2016.
Adelson has denied any involvement in the murder-for-hire plot.
