Greta Thunberg deletes pro-Palestinian post featuring antisemitic trope, claims she ‘was completely unaware’

Greta Thunberg was accused by Israeli officials of being an “advocate of terrorism” on Friday after sending a pro-Palestinian message – initially featuring a toy octopus, a well-known antisemitic.

The 20-year-old eco-warrior posted a picture of himself holding a “Stand With Gaza” sign with three friends – one holding a “Free Palestine” sign – while calling for a strike “in solidarity with Palestine and Gaza.”

With them is a toy octopus — a symbol often used in anti-Jewish propaganda since its use in Nazi-era cartoons.

The Time “Person of the Year” honoree later deleted the photo, replacing it with an almost identical one — only without the offending symbol, to which he protested his innocence.

“It has come to my knowledge that the stuffed animal shown in my previous post could be interpreted as a symbol of antisemitism, which I was not aware of,” he said.

On the other hand, the eco warrior – who previously discussed the autism spectrum – claims that “the toys in the picture are tools that autistic people often use as a way to communicate feelings.”

“We are of course against any kind of discrimination, and condemn antisemitism in all shapes and forms. This is non-negotiable. That’s why I deleted the last post,” he stressed.

His message – even without the squid – drew a disgusted condemnation from Israel Defense Forces spokesman Arye Sharuz Shalicar.

“Anyone who identifies with Greta in any way in the future, in my view, is a supporter of terrorism,” an outraged IDF official told Politico.

“Because what Greta is doing, that she is now showing solidarity with Gaza while not talking about the Israeli genocide, shows that she is not in favor of the Palestinians, but she is wiping out the terrorism of the Palestinians or Hamas and Islamic Jihad under the table as if sport does not exist,” he stressed.

Other officials also ripped into Thunberg, who also shared an Instagram post from a German-based Palestinian group calling Israeli counter-airstrikes in the Gaza Strip “genocide.”

“It’s not the octopus that makes all these tweets feel so antisemitic … It is [complete] denial of torturing, raping, beheading, and kidnapping thousands of Israelis,” Israeli diplomat Dana Filber writes.

Former journalist Doron Herman shared a graphic that read “Greta Thunberg Supports ISIS” in bold.

“You say you are against antisemitism, yet you cannot say a word to condemn Hamas or express solidarity for the 1,400 people – including children – that they have slaughtered,” human rights lawyer and self-described “proud Zionist” Arsen Ostrovsky also reply to X Thunberg’s post.

Hamas, based in the Gaza Strip, has often been compared to ISIS since its attacks on Israel.

Shalicar later pushed back on his comments about Thunberg’s supporters, telling Politico that he “speaks out of deep pain and [his] words do not reflect my personal views or those of the IDF.”

The worst attack on Israel in 50 years: How we got here

2005: Israel unilaterally withdraws from the Gaza Strip three decades after winning the territory from Egypt in the Six-Day War.

2006: The terrorist group Hamas wins Palestinian legislative elections.

2007: Hamas takes control of Gaza in a civil war.

2008: Israel launched a military offensive against Gaza after Palestinian terrorists fired rockets into the city of Sderot.

2023: Hamas launches its biggest attack on Israel in 50 years.

More than 1,400 Israelis have been killed, more than 4,200 injured and at least 100 taken hostage, with the death toll expected to rise after Hamas terrorists fired thousands of rockets and sent dozens of militants into Israeli cities.

Hamas terrorists are seen taking women hostage and parading them through the streets in a gruesome video.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced “We are at war” and promised Hamas would pay an “unprecedented price.”

Gaza health officials reported at least 3,000 Palestinians killed and more than 12,500 injured.

The response to Thunberg’s stance in Gaza comes just three days after she was arrested at an anti-oil protest outside a five-star hotel in London on Tuesday.
