Grimes, who was born Claire Elise Boucher, is hoping to go out in style!
The 35-year-old is a brilliant talent with five studio albums to his name and two adorable children. In a recent interview with WIRED, Grimes— who shares her children with Elon Musk — had a lot to talk about, including how and when she wants to exit this world.
Grimes Says She “Wants to Die in Space”
During the discussion, Grimes was asked if he had plans to travel beyond Earth, and in response, the Canadian musician said, “Of course. I hope to die in space. I want to go far enough out there where my body doesn’t able to hold back. So it will be closer to the end of my life. Maybe 65.”
In fact, he added that Mars, in particular, would be a “fantastic” place to end his life – as long as “there are megastructures at that time.” Making his point, the 35-year-old said, “I’m going to go there and live as long as I can until I die.”

However, the “Oblivion” artist revealed one thing that could make him change plans when he said, “If there’s a real responsibility, like, if my kids have grandchildren and really need me, I might change my mind, the outlet . But the preferred thing is to see some new worlds.”
Another thing that can be a hindrance to a mother of two is her children and giving them time to grow up. In his words, “I want to move to Mars. But I have to wait until my children are healthy. Like 25. I think if I die on Earth in my last moments, I will regret it. If I die in space, I’d be like, ‘You’ve lived a great life; you’ve done all the things you wanted to do.'”
Grimes Worries About Her Children’s Lifestyle
Since Musk’s on-again-off-again boyfriend’s company, SpaceX, is working on a $3 billion reusable heavy-lift launch projectile to transport humans and cargo to the moon and Mars, he may find it easy to go to space.
However, welcoming two children with a man who provides such privileges—and more—is something of a concern for the Canadian singer. Having developed a long-lasting bond that transcends her romance with the famous businessman, the Grimes children are therefore exposed to a life of luxury thanks to their father’s wealth.

Looking back, the “Flesh Without Blood” singer wanted her baby to have a different upbringing. While chatting with WIRED, the entertainer talked about her mother’s life and her children’s future. The 4-time Juno Award recipient admits:
“Motherhood makes me more optimistic. I wasn’t very focused before. Just, what sounds cool, what feels cool. Now I feel a social responsibility with my art—to make art that is optimistic about the future.”
Afterwards, the media personality explained, “Not many people do that. People have very bad visions of the future because it’s easy and fun to write about dystopia cyberpunk.”
Later, he credits his children for influencing positive changes in his career. Grimes says, “Seeing my kids makes me pathologically optimistic. It’s a life mission.” Further into the conversation, the doting mother expressed concern about her little angel growing up with privilege and the effect Musk’s wealth would have on their children.
When asked about this, the Webby Award winner said, “A little bit. I think their lives will be quite intense. Being Elon’s son is not the same as being anyone’s son.” Grimes later shared her plan to keep her kids grounded with her low-key parenting, stating, “In my house, at least, I want it to be more of a crazy warehouse situation and a cool art space.”
