Gypsy is officially a free woman after being jailed in 2016 for killing her mother, Claudine “Dee Dee” Blanchard. He was released early on parole and already has a busy schedule, including an upcoming book and documentary, and hopes to meet singer Taylor Swift.
On Thursday morning, Gypsy was picked up from the Chillicothe Correctional Center in northern Missouri by Ryan’s husband Scott Anderson. She married 37-year-old Anderson in prison last year, shortly after ending her engagement to another man, known only as Ken.
After driving to the correctional center in a Cadillac Sedan, Anderson drove out again with Gypsy and the two went to spend their first night as free women together at a “budget hotel,” according to Daily Mail. Its initial release has been eagerly awaited on social media, with many celebrating the relief.

In 2015, Gypsy conspired with ex-boyfriend Nicholas Godejohn, whom she met on the internet, to stab her mother, Dee Dee, to death. The murder happened after the 48-year-old spent all of Gypsy’s childhood and early adolescence convincing him and the rest of the world that she suffered from leukemia and muscular dystrophy.
Gypsy is confined to a wheelchair, told she is allergic to all kinds of sugar, and is restricted from friends and family. However, it all ends when Godejohn sneaks into their house and kills Dee Dee at Gypsy’s request.
Gypsy was eventually sentenced to 10 years and scheduled to be released in 2025. The court only granted her initial parole in September 2023 after friends, family and thousands of social media users pleaded for leniency. They are asking the authorities to consider the years of cruel abuse and unnecessary medical treatment Gypsy endured at the hands of her mother.

As the day of her release approaches, Gypsy opens up Many people Magazine in an interview about his experience with Dee Dee and revealed that he regrets his decision. He shared that the physical abuse got the best of him, especially when his mother forced him to undergo another surgery that he didn’t need.
He said, “I was desperate to get out of the situation.” This desperation to be free led her to ask Godejohn to kill her mother, which he did. Gypsy said she now feels very remorseful for her actions and will never say she is happy about her mother’s death because she “regrets it every day.”
He added, “If I had another chance to do it all over again, I don’t know if I would go back to my childhood and tell my aunt and uncle that I’m not sick and mom made me sick, or, if I would went back to the point of the conversation with Nick and told him, ‘You know, I’m going to tell the police everything.’ I kind of struggled with that.”
