Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been branded “eco-hypocrites” after reportedly flying to a Katy Perry concert in Las Vegas on a private jet.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who are both staunch advocates for action on climate change, boarded a Gulfstream jet owned by oil heir Michael Herd for their trip to Sin City, according to the Sun.
The estranged royal took the 40-minute flight to see the “Roar” performer’s final performance of her Las Vegas residency at the Resorts World Theatre.
The controversial move has sparked massive outrage on social media, as royal experts far and wide have condemned the Sussexes as “hypocritical” for flying on private jets while encouraging people to try to lower their carbon emissions.

Elsewhere, royal expert and biographer Angela Levin suggested that Harry, who is still patron of his charity Travalyst, which promotes sustainable and eco-friendly tourism, should “get in the sack” for private flights.
“They think they’ve become so great, they wouldn’t even dream of taking a regular flight,” Levin told the outlet.
“They have all these rich friends to pay for it. It’s worse than ‘do as I say, not as I do’ because he’s a charity patron.”
Just hours later, Harry’s brother and heir to the throne, Prince William, flew on a British Airways commercial flight to Singapore for the Earthshot Prize award.

“William was very well received in Singapore, which must have annoyed Harry and Meghan. This kind of behavior is exactly why we call them eco-hypocrites,” Levin said.
The Gulfstream jet, the plane Harry and Meghan, 42, reportedly fly, is co-owned by the Herd, and reportedly emits an estimated 2 tonnes of CO2 per hour — almost a quarter of the 7.4 tonnes the Brit produces on average each year.
Under the terms of the Paris Agreement, which aims to keep global warming well below 2 degrees Celsius, a person’s annual carbon budget should be limited to 2.1 tonnes per year.
When asked about the backlash against the Sussexes for using the private jet, the oil heiress said, “I don’t have any comment, I’m not them.”

Also on the flight from Santa Barbara were Cameron Diaz, her husband Benji Madden, Zoe Saldana, Hollywood producer David Katzenberg, and billionaire and founder of the dating app Bumble Whitney Wolfe Herd, and her husband, Michael Herd.

Harry and Meghan’s repeated use of private jets has highlighted a stark contrast to their vocal efforts to minimize travel to combat climate change.
Of course this isn’t the first time the Sussexes have sparked outrage for their hypocritical ways.

Last year, Harry, 39, gave a speech in which he warned the United Nations about the growing dangers of climate change, saying that “our world is on fire again.”
“This historic weather event is no longer historic. More and more, they are part of our daily lives, and this crisis will only get worse,” said the double-talking dilettante in his speech.
Then again, in an interview with Oprah Winfrey, Harry characterized climate change as one of the “most pressing issues” facing humanity.
“We need to do better to stop or allow the things that cause so much harm to so many of us at the source, rather than being distracted by the symptoms,” he said in a sit-down interview.

In October, Harry and Meghan boarded a private jet to begin their romantic getaway on the island of Canouan in St. Vincent and the Grenadines – just days after talking about climate change.
The couple last year came under fire from critics for returning from Queen Elizabeth II’s four-day Platinum Jubilee celebrations in a pollution-spewing private jet.
Their 5,500-mile journey from Farnborough, England, to Santa Barbara is estimated to have released nearly 60 tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
And in 2021, Harry took a private jet home from his charity polo event in Aspen, instead of flying with the hoi polloi on the two-hour flight back to his mansion in Montecito, Calif.
