Katy Perry has collected a large number of accolades over the years, including several Grammy nominations and four Guinness World Records.
She has also released six studio albums, namely, “Katy Hudson” (2001), “One of the Boys” (2008), “Teenage Dream” (2010), “PRISM” (2013), “Witness” (2017), and “Smile” (2020). The 38-year-old musician has now sold his entire music catalog, including five of his six albums, for a boatload, far more than what Justin Bieber sold for.
Katy Perry Sells Her Music Catalog To Litmus Music For $225 Million
On Monday, September 18, Litmus Music, a catalog rights company backed by private equity firm Carlyle Group LP, acquired the rights to five of Perry’s studio albums released between 2008 and 2020, all for Capitol Records.
Billboard reported that Litmus paid $225 million for the Grammy nominee’s share of master recording royalties and music publishing rights to the album. Stakeholders have yet to comment on the terms of the deal, although the sale of the catalog was finalized earlier this year.

The shocking news comes on the heels of other 2023 music rights deals like Bieber, who sold his catalog for $200 million to Hipgnosis Songs Capital. Sales of the “Part of Me” singer’s catalog prove that a “household name artist” can still charge big even as high interest rates control investors’ appetite for song rights.
Since 2008, when Perry broke out with the single “I Kissed A Girl,” she has reached nine No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Additionally, she remains the first woman and only the second artist, after Micheal Jackson, with an album that produced five No. 1.
The songs are “California Gurls,” “Teenage Dream,” “Firework,” “ET” and “Last Friday Night (TGIF).” Meanwhile, after the release of his last album, “Smile,” in 2020, he begins his residency in Las Vegas in 2021, which is gradually approaching.
According to Litmus, Perry has had a professional relationship with their co-founder and chief creative officer, Dan McCarroll, since 2010, when McCarroll was president of Capitol Records.
He described the singer as “a creative visionary who has made a huge impact in music, TV, film and philanthropy.” McCarroll also said, “I am very pleased to be working with him again and helping Litmus curate his incredible collection.”
Hank Forsyth, co-founder and CEO of Litmus, and Matt Settle, managing director at Carlyle, also had words of praise for Perry’s music. Forsyth called his songs “important” as “part of the fabric of global culture,” adding, “We’re very grateful to be working again with such a trusted partner.” Instead, Settle said:
“We believe this is a testament to the team’s ability to work with the world’s leading artists. Katy’s iconic songs have not only achieved outstanding commercial success but have significantly influenced popular culture.”

Catalog sales separately, when it comes to future collaborations, it seems the “Dark Horse” singer already has a clear vision. In an interview, he named Ice Spice and Lizzo as people he had in mind for possible collaborations. He also sang a verse from Spice’s hit feature with PinkPantheress, “Boy’s a Liar.”
As for Lizzo, he wanted her to be a judge on “American Idol” and invited her directly saying, “I want Lizzo to be on American Idol. This is an invitation from me, Katy Perry, asking you to be on the panel. I’m feeling a little over testosterone. I could really use some bold and honest hot takes.”
Katy Perry Talks About Her Sobriety Journey With Her Fiance
Back in June, Perry explained the deal with her and her fiance Orlando Bloom to begin their sobriety journey. She told PEOPLE that the trip began after “President’s Day” which she saw as an opportunity to “reset” and “just to let my body bounce back a little bit.”
The record-breaker explained that while he abstains from drinking on weeknights, he indulges “a little” on weekends. He also mentions that he agreed to the sobriety because of his love for Bloom.
“We’re doing this because he’s filming a movie in London right now that’s taking up all of his focus, so I wanted the opportunity to be supportive,” she said, adding, “So, doing it together makes it easier.”
