‘Harry Potter’ Stars & Author J.K. Rowling Pay Tribute To Robbie Coltrane

Actor Robbie Coltrane died on Friday, October 14, at the age of 72.

His agent released a statement saying that the “James Bond” actor had been suffering from health problems for the past few years and died in a hospital located near his home in Scotland. He left behind two children.

Although the comedic actor has taken on many roles over the years, he is best known to fans as Hogwarts gamekeeper Rubeus Hagrid in the “Harry Potter” film franchise, beginning with “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” in 2001.

“The legacy of that film, I suspect, my children’s generation will show it to their children. So you can watch it in 50 years, easy. I won’t be here, sadly, but… Hagrid will, yes.” pic.twitter.com/zejVw4jtgp

Coltrane recently took part in the 20th anniversary special “Return to Hogwarts” which premiered on HBO Max on January 1st. In the special, he laments that, even though he won’t be around in fifty years, Hagrid will still be remembered and loved by fans.

But, just as Hagrid will never be forgotten, neither will Coltrane, as “Harry Potter” star and author JK Rowling pay tribute to the actor who brought the gentle giant to life.

“Robbie is one of the funniest people I’ve ever met and always made us laugh as kids on set. I have fond memories of him keeping our spirits up for the Prisoner of Azkaban, when we were all hiding from the pouring rain for hours in Hagrid’s hut and he told stories and jokes to keep our spirits up,” he said. “I feel very lucky to have met and worked with him and very sad that he has passed away. He is an amazing actor and a beautiful man.”
