Heart-stopping moment mom pushing tot in stroller nearly struck by crashing car

Heartbreaking video footage shows an out-of-control flip on a UK pavement — landing just inches from a mother pushing her daughter in a pram.

The unidentified mum was seen pushing the pram down a wide road in the Birmingham suburb of Olton on Saturday evening — suddenly stopping short and steering the pram to the left when she saw the vehicle heading straight towards them.

The black SUV hit a crosswalk pole just meters away, causing it to spin onto its right side — right where the mother and toddler were.

Surveillance footage initially appeared to show the vehicle had flattened the couple in front of a store with Christmas decorations outside.

However, as people rushed to help, the mother was seen fleeing the crash with her daughter in her arms.

“The mother was shocked and her daughter was only about two years old,” a shop worker who witnessed the near miss told local outlet BirminghamLive. “It was a terrible accident.”

The victim and the female driver of the crushed car were taken to Heartlands Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Witnesses said the child may have suffered a broken leg.

A mother was seen pushing her daughter’s pram before Saturday’s disaster. A black SUV is seen in the video jumping to the side of the road and heading straight for the mother. The out-of-control vehicle struck a lamp post and overturned, nearly crushing the mother and baby. The mother was able to pull the stroller off the road, but her daughter was still injured.

The mother was treated at the scene by paramedics for minor injuries and did not require hospitalisation, according to a spokesman for the ambulance service.

It is not known what caused the driver to lose control of the SUV, but police said no arrests have been made.
