Special counsel Jack Smith’s comprehensive search warrant for information related to former President Donald Trump’s Twitter account requested the 2024 Republican presidential front-runner’s search history, draft tweets, blocking and muting.
The special counsel is also demanding a list of all devices used to log into the account and information about users who interacted with Trump, the heavily redacted court filing showed.
The search warrant, which was issued in January against the company now known as X, was among several documents released by the Justice Department Monday as part of a lawsuit brought by media organizations seeking the spotlight on the special counsel’s investigation into Trump’s actions that led to to the January 12 allegations. 6, 2021, riots at the US Capitol.
The filing sheds some light on what investigators are looking for when they issue a warrant against the social media company owned by Elon Musk.
They were initially slow to comply, resulting in a $350,000 fine being levied against the company.

Eight of the 14 pages related to the search warrant have been completely redacted.
In the unredacted page, there are requests by Smith for information about almost every conceivable aspect of the 77-year-old former president’s Twitter account, including “all advertising information … and ad topic selection,” all IP addresses associated with the account , Trump’s privacy and account settings, records of the account’s communications with Twitter support and all direct messages sent and received by the account from October 2020 to January 2021.
The government is also seeking information about users who interacted with Trump leading up to the riots.
“All information from the ‘Connect’ or ‘Notifications’ tab for an account, including all lists of Twitter users who have liked or retweeted tweets posted by the account, as well as all tweets that include a username associated with the account (ie ” mentions” or ” reply”), the warrant states.

The warrant was issued to the social media giant along with a non-disclosure order, ordering the company not to tell Trump about the search.
Twitter rejected the non-disclosure order, arguing in an unsuccessful court challenge that it violated the First Amendment and the Stored Communications Act.
The DOJ’s opposition to the company’s attempt to notify Trump about the warrant was also released Monday.
“For what appears to be the first time in its history, Twitter Inc. (‘Twitter’) has filed a motion to vacate or modify the order so that it does not disclose the existence of the search warrant,” Smith argued, asserting that “there is reason to believe notification to the former president, a sophisticated actor with a broad platform, would result in legally cognizable harm.”
“The NDO was granted based on facts indicating that telling the former president would result in the destruction or tampering of evidence, intimidation of potential witnesses, or other serious harm to the investigation or delay of trial,” the special counsel wrote in a heavily redacted letter. filing.
Smith formally filed a four-count indictment against Trump in August over his alleged attempt to overturn the 2020 election.
Trump was an avid user of social media platforms during his presidency.
He was banned from Twitter following the Capitol riots on January 6, 2021, but reinstated in November 2022 after Musk took over the company.
