In a new interview with Sunday TimesCarter discusses the impact of void culture on the entertainment industry.

He noted that some performers have seen themselves canceled due to different situations, often leading to loss of livelihood and other distressing difficulties.

Describing cancel culture as a “witch hunt,” the actor named co-stars Depp and Rowling as people who have experienced its effects, even though they did nothing to warrant such a backlash.

“You can’t ban people. I hate cancel culture. It’s become quite hysterical, and there’s a kind of witch hunt and a lack of understanding,” the “Harry Potter” actor told the publication in an interview published on Saturday.

The 56-year-old seemed to imply that the void culture was a form of hypocrisy by insisting that “millions of individuals” would also be subject to the void culture if their “personal lives” were scrutinized.

Carter also said in the interview that he did not believe Depp, with whom he co-starred in “Sweeney Todd,” would have trouble finding work following his defamation trial with his ex-wife Amber Heard.

Depp has sued the “Aquaman” star for defamation over an op-ed she wrote in 2018 about experiencing domestic violence while with him.

After the op-ed made headlines, Depp experienced what many believed to be the negative effects of null culture. He lost several offers and was even ruled out of reprising his role as Grindelwald in the “Fantastic Beasts” franchise.

Discussing his ordeal, Carter noted that Johnny “definitely went through it” before he was finally “vindicated” in court earlier that year. He also appeared to slam Heard for displaying hypocrisy when she joined the #MeToo movement with her allegations against Depp.

He said, per Sunday Times“My view is that she’s riding that pendulum. That’s the problem with these things — that people will jump on the bandwagon because it’s a trend and be the poster girl for it.’

He added, “It has been taken to an extreme, judging people. He justifies his opinion, especially if he has suffered abuse. Everyone carries their own history of trauma and shapes their opinions from that trauma, and you have to respect where people are coming from and their pain.
