Hilary Duff, best known for her role as Lizzie McGuire in the popular Disney Channel series of the same name, nearly broke the internet after she announced she would be reprising the role for the reboot of the show.
However, the reboot was canceled because, according to Duff, “the stars didn’t align.” Despite the project being scrapped, Duff recently said she’s still open to doing a “Lizzie McGuire” reboot, even though her “phone hasn’t been ringing off the hook,” since making those comments.

Hilary Duff recently went on “Watch What Happens Live” to promote the second season of “How I Met Your Father.” While there, host Andy Cohen read a question from a fan, who mentioned “Lizzie McGuire.” He then asked Duff if he would still consider doing a reboot if “it lived up to his vision,” to which Duff quickly said, “Of course.”
Cohen then asked what the “major tipping point” was for the reboot, to which the “So Yesterday” singer was a little flustered, trying to be lighthearted and not say something she didn’t mean. After a pause, Duff gathered her thoughts and finally answered, “Disney+ is very new and I think they’re thinking [pause] and we are thinking about us [pause]and…,” Duff paused before ending with, “I’m optimistic.”
However, since Duff made the comments, despite saying she’s “optimistic” about the reboot still happening, Disney has yet to reach out to the actress.
“The phone wasn’t ringing,” Duff told TheWrap during the press day for Hulu’s “How I Met Your Father.”

In December 2020, Hilary Duff took to social media to announce the “Lizzie McGuire” reboot project was officially canceled.
“I am so honored to have the character of Lizzie in my life. He has had a lasting impact on many people, including myself,” he began to explain. “To see the loyalty and love the fans have for him, to this day, means a lot to me.”
But that’s when Duff announced the news, writing, “I know effort and conversation is everything trying to make the reboot work, but unfortunately despite everyone’s best efforts, it’s not going to happen. I want any Lizzie reboot to be honest and authentic to who Lizzie is today. That’s a worthy character. We can all take a moment to mourn the amazing woman she will be and the adventures we will have with her. I’m so sad, but I promise everyone tries their best and the stars don’t align. Hey now, this is what 2020 is made of.”

The “How I Met Your Father” actor also discussed the “creative differences” Disney and Duff had on the reboot project when speaking with Women’s Health. “He must be 30 years old doing 30-year-old things. He doesn’t have to do bong rips and have one-night stands all the time, but it has to be genuine. I think they are scared.”
Because the 34-year-old stood her ground, the project was eventually scrapped, but Lizzie will always be close to the actress’ heart.
“It would be silly of me not to know that I have a sweet spot playing that relatable girl,” she went on to tell the magazine. “I’m that girl.” Even as a child trying to separate himself from the character that made him famous, he managed to maintain his convictions. “It was a conscious choice not to be angry and try to change people’s opinion of who I am,” he says with a laugh. “That doesn’t mean I don’t want to try!”
