A South Carolina man is set to make his first court appearance next month after he is accused of slapping a teenage waitress at a Walt Disney World Resort restaurant three times in the forehead, while under the influence, after he refused to seat her because of the restaurant’s dress code.
John Munro, 64, was arrested and charged with battery after an altercation involving him and a 19-year-old waitress at Cítricos inside Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort in November.
Munro, no stranger to luxury hotels, is the Vice President of Hospitality, Sales and Marketing at the prestigious Sea Pines Resort in Hilton Head, where he lives, according to Walt Disney World News Today.
According to an arrest affidavit obtained by Fox 35 Orlando, on November 19, 2023, Orange County Sheriff’s office deputies responded to the resort in reference to a battery.
A preliminary investigation revealed that just before 7:30 p.m., a restaurant server was checking on a family who had a reservation for three.
However, the group arrived with four people; two women and two men.
According to arrest records, one of the men, identified as Munro, was not dressed according to the restaurant’s dress code.
She was wearing swim shorts and a T-shirt and the Cítricos website states that “guests are expected to dress appropriately in clothing that respects the sophisticated and upscale aesthetic of the restaurant,” adding clearly that swimwear is not allowed.

Because Munro was wearing “swimming shorts and a T-shirt,” he was told by the host that he would not be allowed to eat with his family, the report stated.
Munro seems to understand but says he will wait with his group until they are seated.
The host agreed to his request, but things took a turn for the worse when he brought the group to sit down moments later.
According to the deputy minister, Munro followed the three parties to their table even though he was told he was not allowed to do so.
“Please don’t let him sit with us, he’s really drunk, underdressed, it’s my birthday, and I’m embarrassed,” one of the women told the host, according to the affidavit.

When the host told Munro he couldn’t sit with the group, he “started repeatedly slapping his forehead” three times while saying his name, which he read from a name tag on his shirt, deputies stated.
The homeowner was uninjured and refused medical treatment, and wants to press charges, deputies said.
Deputies chased after Munro, who they said appeared to be intoxicated based on his “slurred speech, shiny red eyes, and constantly repeating that he was going to sue Disney,” the arrest affidavit said.
Munro was arrested and released on $1,000 bond the next day.
He also has been placed on administrative leave “amidst this review of personnel matters,” resort spokeswoman Karen Moraghan confirmed Thursday to The Island Packet and Beaufort Gazette.
Surveillance video from the restaurant was not available, but prosecutors plan to use police body camera footage from the incident, according to Florida court records.
Munro entered a not guilty plea and is expected to appear in court for a pre-trial conference hearing on February 16.
