Posting a video of the event, Rizzo showed his many fans how the Emmys honored Saget and added messages throughout the broadcast. The clip gives a glimpse of the late entertainment star on screen with his younger self in the background. His name appears on the monitor, and the word “performer” is inserted below it.

There are also instrumentalists, including several violinists, sitting in front of the screen, perhaps playing a song in honor of the late movie star.

“I’ve been a wreck all day waiting for this,” the grieving widow wrote in the update. “My heart is broken again. But I know he would be proud of this recognition.” In ending the message, she wrote that it was still “so weird and surreal,” but she also seemed to appreciate the loving gesture.

The Emmys won’t be the first to celebrate Saget’s memory and impact on television, as he was also awarded the Impact Award at the Fourth Annual Critics’ Choice Reality TV Awards in June. Unfortunately, given his death a few months earlier, his wife had to stand in for him, and as The Blast reports, she gave a beautiful heartfelt speech, paying tribute to her lover.

He expressed how honored he and Saget’s “amazing” daughter felt to accept the award on his behalf but also admitted that it was “very bittersweet” because it all felt “so surreal.” The TV host added that while watching and seeing her lover, she believed he was “larger than life” and “so full of life.”

He further calls her a “force of nature” and admits to never fully accepting her death because she feels it still doesn’t make sense. While it was surreal and bittersweet to collect the honor for Saget, Rizzo was comforted by the fact that everyone still loved and admired him, and he knew how lucky he was to receive the award. In his words:

“I know that Bob would be very honored and very excited and very grateful to receive this award. I mean, he would be blown away. All he wanted to do was make people happy.”
