English singer and songwriter Ed Sheeran may not appear at the upcoming coronation of King Charles III. However, he will provide assistance to one of the important features of the event.
Fans will recall that after Sheeran turned down an invitation to perform at the Coronation concert, it was revealed that Lionel Richie, an “American Idol” judge, would be headlining the event alongside a number of top musicians.
In preparation for Richie’s departure overseas, Sheeran showed his support by stepping in as a guest judge on the talent show, replacing the legend for the time being and marking his first appearance on the programme.

The “I Don’t Care” singer will take over “American Idol” alongside Alanis Morissette, who will replace Katy Perry, another performer who will perform at the British Coronation.
The replacement duo will join Luke Bryan as a guest judge on May 7 after being selected ahead of Richie and Perry’s trip to their upcoming UK show.
Per Variety, the update went live on Monday, May 1, with ABC reporting that the “Easy” star and “Fireworks” singer will still be checking in on the show with live updates from all the festivities at Windsor Castle. Morissette and Sheeran are scheduled to replace the program “616” episodes, where America will cast their votes for the remaining 5 best contestants.
The new show will be both singers’ first appearances on “American Idol,” They will each perform, with Morissette singing one of their many hits and Sheeran performing his latest single, “Boat.”
In addition, Morissette will guide the remaining contestants, who will perform her songs live, while the finalists will team up with each other in duets of Sheeran’s famous songs.
It is important to know that only eight finalists remained in the competition show, including Colin Stough, Haven Madison, Iam Tongi, Megan Danielle, Oliver Steele, Warren Peay, Wé Ani, and Zachariah Smith.
What’s more, the “Shape of You” singer’s subbing position comes amid a copyright infringement trial for her song “Thinking Out Loud,” which was accused of copying Marvin Gaye’s single “Let’s Get It On.”
He is being sued along with Warner Music Group and Sony Music Publishing by three heirs of songwriter Ed Townsend, a credited co-writer with Gaye on the 1973 song.

Before appointing Richie and Perry as the coronation act, King Charles suggested some big names in the music industry that he would like to perform at his Coronation concert which will be held on May 7.
Among those listed were Sheeran and Adele, who unfortunately declined the invitation, with the “Perfect” singer giving a plausible reason while the “Hello” singer had no explanation.
It has been reported that Sheeran will be performing in Texas the day before the Coronation concert, making it challenging to balance his schedule, unlike Adele, who appears to have no show scheduled on May 7.
A source close to the Royal family expressed how disappointing the news was to the King especially considering the couple are UK natives. In their words:
“There was a team set up to get the talent signed up, so they approached them both but got a reply saying they weren’t available. They are giants in the showbiz industry. And quintessentially British but also known around the world. Very humiliating.”

As The Blast reports, the iconic vocalist was honored by the admission and took no time to voice how important the show was to him. After being named alongside Perry as a performer, Richie shared his shock, admitting that of all the names King could have chosen, he chose her.
The old timer, who has known the king “for a long time,” went on to declare that he was celebrating the king “now stepping into the role of king” after being a prince for far too long.
When asked what he was most looking forward to at the coronation, Richie expressed his willingness to “see all the light” while promising to give nothing but his best, regardless of what people think of his fellow legends’ past performances.
