During the interview with BBC, Jackson talks about intimacy coaches and how they are becoming more prevalent on movie sets due to the increasing number of intimate scenes in movies. He explained that mental health support should also be increased and provided on film sets, especially projects that are heavier than most.

The “Greatest Showman” actor explained, “There is a small part of my old brain [that thinks], ‘Well, that’s up to you to exercise.’ If you need to go to the doctor, for whatever reason, your leg, your mental health, you know, you get it done.”

Jackman continued, “But I think it will definitely be a sign from employers that we understand taking care of the whole person, not just paying them, but taking care of their well-being in all its forms is very, very important.”

The “Logan” actor added, “There’s a lack of knowledge and ignorance and shame around the subject, and I think it’s something we have to deal with, really, really quickly.”

Jackson previously spoke about getting help with his mental health in an interview with Who Magazine. There the actress revealed that she had experienced childhood trauma and having someone who wasn’t involved was helpful. “Having someone who’s really smart, who’s a little removed from your world, can be really helpful,” Jackman said.

Speaking about his emphasis on depression, Zeller, the film’s director explained that rather than showing the cause of the mental condition, he wanted to show it as it is. He told Hollywood Reporter, “I think it’s part of the mental health issue; it’s like a mystery. You cannot understand exactly why it is there. It may seem unfair, because there is no clear explanation and in a way, it is nobody’s fault.”

Laura Dern, who plays Nicholas’s mother Kate in the film, explained that “The Son” came out at a time when people’s mental health was at a serious low point after the pandemic. “It’s scary,” the actor said during “The Son” press conference in Venice.

“Indeed [when] you feel helpless, even if you feel alone in your shame, guilt and blame, you can turn to many who have been there before and may advise you. We all want to feel a sense of community in this larger conversation that we must have about mental health,” Dern continued.
