Hulu’s newest reality dating series has never been seen before.
“Back in the Groove” is the streaming platform’s newest dating series about three women in their 40s who want to get their “groove” back.
The show is hosted by Taye Diggs, who rose to fame from her role in “How Stella Got Her Groove Back.”
Taye Diggs Helps Women Find Their “Groove”.
The film basically tells the story of a heartbroken old woman who goes on a tropical vacation to escape her life. She ends up falling in love with a much younger native of the island (Diggs) and the rest as they say is history.
Per Hulu, “Three single women in their 40s, all caught up in the hustle and bustle of their everyday lives, will step out of their comfort zones and enter The Groove Hotel, a magical resort on the beautiful island of the Dominican Republic.”
The goal of their stay at The Groove Hotel is to rediscover their youth, live happily, and hopefully find love with a man “HALF. THEY. AGE.”
Three Women In Their 40s Dating Men Half Their Age!
“As the saying goes, ‘you can’t fall in love with someone unless you fall in love with yourself!'” the press release continued. “At The Groove Hotel, these three women will have the opportunity to do both! Whether they’re looking for the perfect match, friendship, true love, or something in between, this is their chance to take charge and break through the double standards older women face every day. And they’ll have fun doing it!”
There are 24 male contestants between the ages of 22 and 32 who want to win the hearts of the three women.
Explosion got an exclusive interview with one of the male contestants!
We spoke with Josh Teasley, aka Teasley.
Teasley is originally from the Midwest and came out to Los Angeles six and a half years ago. He is 31 years old and works in the music and television industry.
He clearly knows a thing or two about “the industry,” so we had to ask straight up, “Would you like to do this show for our 15 minutes of fame?”
Teasley emphatically replied, “No.”
Honestly, he revealed what he was doing to find a partner/partners that didn’t work.
“I saw this as an opportunity to get out of my comfort zone, and try something new, because what I was doing (dating apps) wasn’t working,” he said.
Teasley Wasn’t Looking For Fame, He Was Looking For Something New
He explains that dating in the pandemic and post-pandemic world is very difficult and difficult to navigate. People are afraid to go out, get too close, etc.
The last relationship she had before getting cast in “Back in the Groove,” was before she moved to Los Angeles more than six years ago.
Explosion asked Teasley, “What do you feel, being on the show, makes this different from other reality dating shows out there?”
There’s a Wild Twist Happening in the Show!
Being very transparent, he replied, “The concept of young men dating older women is crazy. And the fact that there are so many men and only three women. We don’t know, or at least I don’t know, how many women there will be. I’m open to 20 women you know what I mean? With three, I have to be more intentional with the way I move, I have to do it.”
He also revealed that there is an interesting TWIST in the show that sets it apart from every other reality dating series.
“There’s a twist on the show that I think really makes this show a lot different, but mostly it’s the age difference,” Teasley teased. “I think it’s ‘taboo’ or viewed differently depending on who you talk to.”
This is Teasley’s first time chasing, so to speak, “an older woman.”
We ask if the age difference is a change, a challenge or just plain sexy.
“I feel like older women know what they want and they’re not really about the game. They have been through a lot. They can offer some wisdom that young women may not have had the opportunity to experience,” she explained. “I see it as an opportunity to try something new. You can’t knock it until you try it. I have never met someone 10 years older than me. I was like, ‘Yo, what I’m doing is actually not cutting it, what if, you know what if this is a move for me? I’m not going to say ‘No,’ I’m going to let them say ‘No.’ So I was like gung-ho. I’m not scared at all. I’m pretty self-aware, pretty confident in the way I move and the way I show up.”
Teasley had to interact with Diggs quite a bit and he said the actor was very blunt in his advice.

“One of you is going home, so step it up,” Diggs told the contestants.
He also explained that Diggs encouraged urgency, thirst and a “go-getter” attitude.
Teasley couldn’t divulge many specifics about the on-set drama, the fights or how successful he was, but he said there was A LOT going on.
The biggest lesson he took from the whole experience…“When the episode happens, I think it will confirm it. But how much better it is to let go and not obsess or control the situation. How much cooler life is if you let go of the controls and ride the waves.”
“Back in the Groove” is streaming now on Hulu.
