Ice-cream trucks being used as morgues for Palestinian bodies as cemeteries, hospitals fill up

Palestinian bodies are thrown into ice cream trucks for storage as hospitals and cemeteries run out of space during the war between Israel and Hamas, health officials said.

Horrifying footage from Gaza captures the surreal sight of medical staff loading commercial ice cream trucks – with adverts for the cold treat and featuring happy children’s faces – re-purposed to hold the bodies of Palestinians killed in the war.

“The hospital mortuary can only take 10 bodies, so we have brought in an ice cream refrigerator from an ice cream factory to store a large number of martyrs,” said Dr. Yasser Ali from Shuhada Al-Aqsa hospital in Deir Al-Balah.

Health officials in Gaza say Israeli retaliatory airstrikes against Hamas terrorists have killed more than 2,300 people so far, about a quarter of them children.

Another 10,000 people have been injured in the Palestinian territories, with hospitals struggling to cope with the rising death toll.

As the conflict continues to escalate, with Israel warning hundreds of thousands of Palestinians to evacuate Gaza ahead of an expected ground offensive to destroy Hamas, health officials fear the civilian toll will only rise.

Ali noted that even with temporary mobile morgues, Gaza would run out of tools to transport the bodies of the dead.

“Even with this refrigerator, the number [of the dead] exceeds the capacity of the main morgue of this hospital and others, and between 20 and 30 bodies are also kept in the tent,” said Ali.

“The Gaza Peninsula is in crisis, and if the war continues in this way, we will not be able to bury the dead. The cemetery is full, and we need new land to bury the remains,” he added.

With war threatening the more than 2 million people who call Gaza their home as Israel counts down the evacuation window, Palestinian officials have revealed they are now creating mass graves for victims.

“Given the large number of martyrs in the morgue of Al-Shifa Hospital, whose relatives did not arrive to bury them, signs of change began to appear on the corpses,” said Salama Marouf, head of the Government Media Office.

Health officials say about 2,300 Palestinians have been killed following Israel’s declaration of war against the Hamas terror group, which governs Gaza.REUTERS

“And in view of the continuous arrival of martyrs in their dozens due to the massacre of the occupation, a mass grave has been prepared to bury about 100 martyrs in the emergency cemetery.”

The Israeli government has repeatedly vowed revenge against Gaza’s ruling Hamas terrorist group after the terror group attacked Israel in a surprise attack last week and killed around 1,300 people.

Among the dead were at least 29 Americans, while at least 15 remain missing as Hamas also kidnapped more than 150 people during the unprecedented attack.
