Famous rapper Ice Cube has recounted the details of a failed movie deal that cost him $9 million.

The actor and rapper, real name O’Shea Jackson Sr, had the discussion during his appearance on the “Million Dollaz Worth of Game” podcast. He stated that he turned down the role because he had to get a vaccine for COVID-19, but later shared that not taking the jab caused the cast to fire him from the production.

During his appearance on the “Million Dollaz Worth of Game” podcast, “Ride Along” star Cube reflected on how refusing to comply with Covid-19 regulations cost him a nine million dollar movie feature.

Although the actor and rapper did not name the film during the conversation, it was last reported that he dropped out of Sony’s “Oh Hell No” cast for refusing to get the COVID-19 vaccine.

“I turned down the movie because I didn’t want to get the king’s glare,” said the Barbershop actor, per New York Post. “I turned down $9 million. I don’t want to get glared at. F*ck that jab. Fuck you for trying to make me get it.”

Cube went on to say that his personal choices at the time may have changed Hollywood actors’ perceptions of him for possible future roles in other productions.

He added, “I don’t know how Hollywood feels about me right now.”

‘I Don’t Need It’

Elsewhere in the podcast, Cube changed his earlier narrative, saying that the presenter had chosen not to give him the role once he explained that nothing would make him take the picture.

“The mothers didn’t give it to me because I wouldn’t get the shot. I did not reject it. They won’t give it to me,” Cube fumed.

“Covid shot, shot … I don’t need it. I didn’t catch that shit at all. nothing. F*ck them. I don’t need that bullshit,” he added, doubling down on his earlier decision.

“Oh Hell No” is helmed by director Kitao Sakurai, while Cube is expected to star alongside actor Jack Black. Black is to portray Sherman, a man who develops a romantic interest in Cube’s character’s mother.

Despite the rapper’s refusal to get the COVID shot, Rolling stone stated that he has been a strong advocate for wearing masks throughout the pandemic, especially on social media. He was often caught wearing a face mask during the Big 3 basketball tournament last year, which shows he is not negligent with his protection.

In collaboration with Black Out producers, the actor launched a “Check Yo Self Before You Wreck Yo Self” t-shirt collection depicting him wearing a mask. Proceeds from the sale of the merchandise go to help frontline workers whose lives are at risk due to their continued exposure to the virus.

Bacone College in August 2021 also praised him for donating personal protective equipment to the institution, including 2,000 face masks.

Aside from losing the movie “Oh Hell No,” Cube also left the cast of an American biographical sports movie dubbed “Flint Strong.” The actor was slated to play Jason Crutchfield, the trainer of the film’s main star, Shields (Destiny.) He was later replaced by Henry earlier that year.

The reason why Cube left the production is still unclear but it may also be related to his refusal to receive a COVID injection.

In recent months, some COVID regulations have been relaxed in areas with fewer people hospitalized, per Deadline. Pre-employment testing is still a requirement for all film productions, while masks are not required in some cases.

However, exhibitors may still require vaccinations and boosters for workers from areas at high risk of contracting the virus.
