follow Many people, Flack was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, aka ALS. The iconic singer and songwriter, 85, was diagnosed with the disease in August and is currently receiving treatment in hospital.

Currently, there is no known cure for the disease, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. This condition causes the slow death of the nerves that transmit messages from the brain to the muscles in the body, affecting the ability to move, speak and even breathe.

According to the family’s spokesperson, the disease “made it difficult to sing and not easy to speak” for the singer who once delighted the world with her unique and powerful vocals.

However, the singer is not letting her condition weigh her down and will remain active in the entertainment industry as her condition improves.
