The Israel Defense Forces advanced further into southern Gaza on Saturday, raiding a Hamas site in Khan Younis and uncovering “high-value documents” from the terror group’s headquarters, military confirmed on X.
The IDF’s 7th Armored Brigade also found a command center of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad – an offshoot of the Muslim Brotherhood – in the city, the army said on X.
While the Israeli military is focusing increased resources on the campaign in southern Gaza, efforts are also continuing to cripple Hamas in the north.
Forces in Gaza City have killed dozens of Hamas operatives in the last day, the Times of Israel reported Saturday.
“Fighters are conducting intense battles against terrorists, the Air Force is attacking terrorist units and infrastructure under command of the team, and Marine Corps fighters are assisting forces operating in the Gaza Strip with attacks and fire from the sea,” IDF writes on Xalong with videos and photos of troops operating throughout the small region.

On Friday, the IDF shared footage of a Hamas general headquarters tunnel dug in one of leader Yahya Sinwar’s “hiding apartments” in northern Gaza, according to the notes on X.
“Part of a long and branching network of tunnels, the tunnel shaft in the apartment leads to a tunnel 218 meters long, with a depth of about 20 meters,” the army wrote next to a photo of the shaft.
“In these tunnels, Senior Hamas officials live comfortably with electrical networks, ventilation and sewage infrastructure, prayer rooms and rest rooms,” the post added.

The Israel-Hamas war has been raging since a deadly terrorist attack on Hamas on October 7 in southern Israel.
In less than three months, Israel has dropped 29,000 bombs and shells in Gaza, the Wall Street Journal reported.
About half of Gaza’s buildings have been damaged or destroyed by the fighting, including 70 percent of the territory’s 439,000 homes, the outlet said.

Only eight of Gaza’s 36 hospitals are still accepting patients, the Journal added, and most of the communications, water and electricity infrastructure has been destroyed.
“The word ‘Gaza’ will go down in history along with Dresden and other famous cities that have been bombed,” Robert Pape, a political scientist at the University of Chicago, told the outlet.
Meanwhile, the IDF has faced criticism for allegedly failing to have plans for situations such as the massive surprise attack by Hamas that killed 1,200 people, the New York Times reported.

The terrorist group stormed the border and unleashed unspeakable horrors for several hours before Israeli forces intervened, the outlet said.
“In practice, there is no proper defense preparation, no training, and no equipping and building forces for such an operation,” Yom Tov Samia, a major general in the Israeli reserves and former head of the army’s Southern Command, told Time.
“There is no defense plan for a surprise attack like we saw on October 7,” added Amir Avivi, a brigadier general in the reserves and former deputy commander of the Gaza Division.

Yaakov Amidror, a retired Israeli general and former national security adviser to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, said “there is no such plan” to repel such a violent attack because “the army is not prepared for what it thinks is impossible.”
Meanwhile, on Saturday, Syrian media reported alleged Israeli airstrikes in the Aleppo area, the Times of Israel said.

Air defenses are said to have launched an attack on Aleppo International Airport, pro-government Sham FM radio said, according to the Times of Israel.
Images on social media showed what appeared to be a large plume of smoke in the area.
Earlier in the day, an Israeli citizen was reportedly injured in an attack that rammed a car into a military position in Hebron in the southern West Bank, correspondent Carmel Dangor wrote on X.

The terrorists behind the attack were “eliminated,” Dangor said.
The car crash happened near the al-Fawwar refugee camp, not far from where a similar attack injured five soldiers on Friday, the Times of Israel said.
