A decade has passed since Menzel lent her voice to “Let It Go” in Disney’s animated film “Frozen.”
Menzel considered the song, sung by a character without a conventional romantic storyline, to be a career highlight, stating, “It was one of the greatest things that happened to me. I think more than playing that iconic character, it’s what Elsa says and how she speaks to people, in the LGBTQ+ community and to young children: this idea that we all have powers that we don’t share for fear of alienating others, and finally let go of that power.”
Even before Frozen, Menzel showcased her diversity and support for LGBTQ+ rights through roles like “Rent” in 1995. “The support of the LGBTQ+ community is everything. I get letters from people about how Rent has changed their lives. Their courage and willingness to live an authentic life is a shining example for all of us,” per Evening Standard.

There’s shirtless people were pressed on stage, singing, crying, and dancing, and I left feeling so excited. So I thought: what music can I make to bring to that place, but where I can still embrace my voice the big one?”
The “Enchanted” star reiterated her unwavering LGBTQ+ advocacy, stating, “There’s a lot of scapegoating going on. I strongly believe that allies should be at the forefront of doing the work because young people need to spend their energy figuring out and staying true to who they are.”
