Idris Elba has revisited one of the saddest moments of his life.
The famous actor, recognized for portraying action heroes in major Hollywood films, once faced a life-threatening situation when he was held at gunpoint while trying to protect the gunman’s girlfriend. He revealed that the severity of the situation and the possible consequences became clear at the time, setting it apart from his experience on the film set.
Idris Elba’s Fears Revealed When He Is Threatened By Strangers & Their Weapons
Elba, known for his roles in “Luther” and “The Wire,” recounted a harrowing incident in which he was held at gunpoint during a disturbing altercation in the United States. Speaking to the Daily Mail recently, the superstar began:
“I almost lost my king’s life after trying to stop a man threatening his girlfriend outside the club. A man (was) whaling on his missus, shouting in her face, ‘I’ll kill the king’ and so on. I came, and I went, “Look how beautiful she is. Why are you talking like that to this beautiful princess?”
Unfortunately, his attempt to defuse the situation caused more harm, with the man misunderstanding the actor’s intentions, thinking he was making advances towards his girlfriend. This misunderstanding led to the man pulling out a gun and pointing it directly into the Hackney-born star’s face, demanding an explanation for his interaction with the woman.

“He thought I was trying to hit him. I remember thinking, “Don’t play negotiations like that… Consequences, man,'” Elba concluded without giving specific details about when and where the gun was pulled on him or how the rest of the incident unfolded.
More than a year before he revealed the details of the terrifying arrest, the “Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw” performer opened up about his humble beginnings in the entertainment industry.
According to The Blast, the 50-year-old struggled to make ends meet and held various odd jobs, including working as a DJ and comedy club bouncer to support himself. However, his financial situation remains challenging, causing him to sell weed to supplement his income. During an interview on Sirius XM’s “The Jess Cagle Show,” Elba said:
“I’m running with cats. I mean, I’m DJing, but I’m also pushing a bag of weed; I’m doing my job. I have to. I know that sounds harsh, but it’s the truth.”
He then dropped additional information about his client, declaring, “I met a comedian 1694736716 which kind of remember English men. Tall English guy with a funny accent and short hair. David Chappelle remembers me because he used to buy weed from me! Anyway, go ahead.”
The comedian himself has admitted to buying marijuana from Elba after their initial meeting at Caroline’s on Broadway, where the latter was working as a club doorman at the time.

Fans’ hearts were broken in March when Elba denied all claims about him taking on the role of James Bond, previously played by Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Sir Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan, and most recently, Daniel Craig.
Rumors of the “Hijack” actor taking over the role began after Craig’s exit from the franchise. However, those hopes were dashed when he addressed the speculation, stating, “I love the Bond franchise; I am very close to the producers. We all laughed about the rumor because it was the same thing.”
He explained that while he cannot speak for the producers, from his perspective, there has never been any truth to the notion surrounding him being the next James Bond.
In addition to fan expectations for him to play the title role, buzz about his acting potential doubled when Sony Pictures executive Amy Pascal mentioned in a leaked 2014 email that she believed “Idris should be the next Bond.”
Excitement was heightened when Barbara Broccoli, the executive producer of the popular franchise, stated during a podcast appearance in 2022 that the recipient of the Order of the British Empire had been part of their discussions from the beginning. However, at that time, the only obstacle was the presence of Craig as the lead. In his words:
“I think we’ve decided that until No Time to Die has run and Daniel has been able, well, we’ve all been able to, reap the benefits of Daniel’s great tenure, we’re not going to think about or talk about other people, actors to play the role or storyline or whatever. We just want to live in the moment, the present.”
