Betty White now holds that title. White was 88 when he hosted the show in 2010.
Explosion has exclusively learned that the show’s head honcho, Lorne Michaels, has heard social media cries to get Burnett on the show.
A source close to ‘SNL’ told us, “It’s too early to see if Carol will host and or be asked to host. But if the trend continues, as it has for Betty White, Lorne and the show will definitely work to make it happen.”

On August 29, the comedian’s name was trending and many believed it was due to some very sad news.
His name started trending as the official Twitter account for “Saturday Night Live” issued a social media outcry from fans.
The tweet read, “Who do you want to host SNL? Tell us in the replies.”
As you can tell where this is headed, a large number of people answered with “Carol Burnett.”

This led many to believe that something wrong had happened.
“Carol Burnett is trending and you’re all scared of me. They just want him to host SNL. How in the world was this comedy genius not given this platform,” tweeted one fan.
“Seeing Carrol Burnett trending and it’s because people want him to host SNL. show I’m going to have a sad moment there,” wrote one worried fan.

One person said they almost had a heart attack after seeing his name trending.
Fortunately, Burnett’s name has been trending for the opposite reason.

So many people wanted White to host the show that an actual campaign was created on Facebook.
From January to March 2010, the campaign garnered half a million votes to make him the host, which he notes in his book.
The excitement was enough for White to let him down and end up taking the stage “live from New York.”
