Iman Shumpert and Teyana Taylor’s divorce continues to sour, with the basketball player slamming his estranged wife’s allegations of abusive treatment.
According to legal documents, obtained by The Blast, Shumpert asked the court to dismiss Taylor’s claims that she was threatened while he was married to her.
Iman Shumpert Requests Change in Divorce Grounds
In the filing, the former New York Knicks player asked the judge to dismiss Taylor’s claim that the reason she wanted the marriage ended was because she felt threatened.

Usually, when celebrities file for divorce, they cite “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split. However, in the songwriter’s case, she claimed “cruel treatment” as the reason for their divorce. By definition, it means “willful physical or mental illness … [that] reasonably justified apprehension of danger to life, limb, or health.”
In a new filing from Shumpert, the former basketball player took issue with his estranged wife’s reasoning, claiming Taylor didn’t prove he made her feel threatened despite what he alleged. She wants the court to scrap her grounds and replace them with “irretrievable broken bonds” as grounds for divorce.
In addition, Shumpert denounced the “A Thousand One” actor’s claim that he was not responsible for the care of their two daughters, Junie, 7, and Rue Rose, 3.
Remember that Taylor and Shumper called off their marriage ten years ago, with the singer making the first move. She initially filed the divorce papers under her initials in an attempt to keep the proceedings highly confidential.
He however confirmed that they would split up in September after cheating rumors spread. Taking to Instagram to share a playful photo of her ad Shumpert, Taylor reassured her fans that she remains good friends and co-parents with her ex-partner.
“Not too much on my best friend! To be honest, Iman and I have separated and have been separated for a long time. To be 1000% clear, ‘infidelity’ is not a reason for our departure. We are still great friends and great business partners, and we are an amazing team when it comes to co-parenting our two beautiful children. Most importantly, we are FAMILY & in ten years together, seven years married, we have never played with or about THAT,” the statement said.

Teyana Taylor Calls Iman Shumpert ‘Jealous’ In Divorce Filing
Despite Taylor’s amicable split announcement, reports surfaced that she actually filed for divorce eight months earlier and accused Shumpert of being a jealous husband. He claims that he is jealous of her fame and is not confident of being good enough for her, even though he earns more.
He reportedly cited an instance where Shumpert would get angry when people would ask for his picture while they were at a public event together. According to the BET Award winner even though the former Cavaliers player signed a $40 million contract, he is jealous of the fame he has achieved with his acting career.
In the filing, the 32-year-old New York City native claims Shumpert “treated her with cruelty and exhibited extreme narcissistic behavior throughout the majority of their marriage.”
She claims she “started deliberately dimming her light for her husband to try to create a harmonious and peaceful marriage” because Iman was “increasingly angry” about her popularity. Things reportedly got so bad that she started turning down acting and reporting opportunities because of her estranged husband.
Following the details of her divorce making headlines, Taylor released a statement, declaring that she wanted the divorce to remain private.
“I think it’s my business, don’t bother anyone & you all know I never play about our children, family & privacy. I do not talk about this personal matter to any media or blog etc. So everyone claiming “Teyana Said” didn’t get any direct statement from ME. This statement is taken from a private court document that was leaked to the public.”
