Injured ‘Fauda’ star Idan Amedi says there are Hamas tunnels in ‘every Gaza home’

An Israeli actor who stars in Netflix’s hit drama “Fauda” said “the world must know the truth” about Hamas as he left hospital Thursday after suffering serious injuries during the war in Gaza – declaring that the terror group has tunnels in every house in the enclave.

Idan Amedi, 35, was hit by shrapnel on January 8 during his reserve duty with a combat engineering unit. Six soldiers were killed and several others were injured in the friendly fire incident.

“Even though I’m badly injured, my spirit is strong,” said the singer and actress with a bruised face, bandaged hands and arm in a sling during an emotional appearance at Sheba Medical Center.

“I refuse to make this injury the story of my life — It’s just another milestone. I will return to singing and acting and with God’s help I will also return to fight for my country,” said Amedi.

He said “the world must know the truth” about terrorists, Ynet reported. “Hamas tunnels are in every Gaza house,” he said, adding that Israel must expose their crimes.

In “Fauda,” he plays Sagi Tzur, a member of an undercover special forces team that fights Palestinian gunmen in the West Bank and Gaza.

“The shrapnel went through my neck and spine, and I was lucky that none of it hit any major blood vessels. I also suffered broken bones including a finger, but I know I will return to playing the guitar and hopefully I can be in ‘Fauda’ season five,” said Amedi.

“I hope to be able to pick up my children again,” he added.

Amedi preferred to talk about other wounded soldiers and his fallen comrades, rather than himself, and became emotional and tearful.

“People tell me I’m a hero and a symbol, but I’m just one of the people. If there is one good thing that happens from my injury, I can be an ambassador for those who are also injured,” he said.

“It is important to give them space to express their pain, both physical and emotional. It will take a long time for them to heal, so please accept them with understanding,” added the actor.

He spoke of his pent-up regret at not being able to ensure that all the soldiers he led returned home safely.

“This will stay with me for the rest of my life. One day I will talk about it,” he said.

Amedi chose two of his best friends who were killed on that fateful day –Sgt. 1st Class Gavriel Bloom, 27, and Sgt. Maj. Akiva Yasinskiy, 35, whom he calls a “moral compass.”

“Akiva was the last person I saw before the explosion and the first thing I wanted to know when I woke up in the hospital was if he survived,” he said.

Amedi also said that rescuing or securing the release of the remaining hostages held by Hamas must be a priority for the government and the military.

“Israel has many tools and types of leverage to deal with the hostage issue. I don’t think everything is finished,” he said.

Before his injury, Amedi was active on Instagram, where he showed support for Israel and its land invasion of Palestinian territories.

He first became popular as a singer, standing out on the eighth season of Israel’s “Kochav Nolad” — “A Star is Born” — competition show.
