Mariah Carey reportedly didn’t get everything she wanted for Christmas this year…unless it was a new boyfriend.
New claims have emerged about the famous singer being single again after allegedly partying with her boyfriend, Bryan Tanaka. The pair were together for seven years, with the backup dancer often showing off her moves on stage behind Carey.

Since starting the “Merry Christmas One and All!” tour in mid-November, Tanaka was conspicuously absent from Carey’s performance, prompting fans to speculate about a potential breakup with her longtime boyfriend.
According to sources, the mother-of-two was celebrating the holiday in Aspen without the 44-year-old, who was known to join her on the holiday. So this is the first time in years that Carey and her creative director haven’t gone on vacation together.
The fire of their breakup was fueled when the entertainer posted two pictures of himself on social media. While the first picture shows her mid-performance on stage, the second picture appears to have been shot in her dressing room.

Upon viewing the slide, fans noticed that Carey was not her cheerful self, and they quickly posted their thoughts. “I hope all is well your energy seems to be gone,” said one in the comments section, while another wrote, “Amazing looks, voice, but something inside is not right. Her face shows it all. Hope she perseveres through what no matter the situation.”
A third Instagram user asked, “Mother Mariah are you okay? you seem lifeless lately. Sending hugs for my Queen,” the fourth wondered if his heart was broken and the fifth commented at length:
“Mary!!! We love you. I LOVE YOU. You have literally saved my life several times. You look amazing and sound amazing! It’s none of our business, we know Queen but because we love and care, we all realize how sad you are in interviews and during performances. You were very cut throat in the interview. We hope you are ok! Always here for you like you’ve been here for US.”
More on X, where a clips his rendition of “Christmas Time Is In The Air Again” came on, someone else expressed“I’m worried. It’s as if he’s not there even with the interview he seems so finished.
In response, another X user revealed, “She’s just been through the heartbreak of a (friendly) breakup with Bryan. He is sad at the moment.”
Notably, Carey and Tanaka’s most recent appearance together was in March when the “All I Want For Christmas Is You” hitmaker celebrated her birthday, which she referred to as her “anniversary.”
Per PEOPLE, Tanaka posted a photo on Instagram, capturing the moment they were both smiling and hugging, accompanied by a sweet caption that read, “This is one of my favorite pictures. Ever. Happy Birthday my beautiful queen. ?3/27?❤️.”

The pair first met in 2006 when Tanaka joined the superstar on her “Adventures of Mimi” tour. Speaking about their early relationship and collaboration, the choreographer shared:
“Something related to us in the old days and there is only a sense of mutual admiration. He saw something in me that I didn’t really recognize at first, than it was over. It was predetermined in history that we would be connected somehow, someway.”
Despite those assurances, it still took time for them to become romantically involved as Carey was engaged to James Packer at the time. As PEOPLE revealed, the famous songbird’s bond with Tanaka was so close that Packer expressed concern about his then-fiancé’s intimacy with the dancer before their engagement ended.
Shortly after news of Carey and Packer ending their engagement surfaced, the Grammy Award winner gathered a group of friends, including Tanaka, for a night out in Malibu.
They later sparked relationship rumors when they were spotted sharing a steamy display of affection on the beach during Thanksgiving weekend 2016. Carey and Tanaka turned up the heat in February 2017 with a steamy Valentine’s Day snap on Instagram.
Days later, the lovebirds sealed their affair with a photo of them locking lips with the caption, “Nobody knows what it means, but it’s provocative … it gets people going!”
Although they took a short break later in 2017, Carey and Tanaka reunited and began spending all their time together going on dates, attending events together and vacationing in Aspen, Colorado.
Tanaka also got to spend time with his girlfriend’s children — twins Moroccan and Monroe — whom he apparently loves. In the words of an insider in 2021, “Mariah is very happy. He always loved her, and they had fun together. He is also great with his children.”
