Iran’s foreign minister accused the US of ordering Israel’s war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip, saying in a fiery speech at the United Nations that America “will not escape this fire” if the fighting does not stop.
“We have always supported peace and security, but today in New York and the United Nations, I am very clear to the American statesmen who are currently managing the genocide in Palestine that we do not welcome the expansion of war in the region,” Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said in his address.
“But I warn, if the massacre in Gaza continues, they will not escape this fire,” he said. “It is our home and West Asia is our region. We do not compromise with any party and any party, and we have no doubts about the safety of other houses.”
The Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran also called for the “massacre” and “forcible displacement of the people of Gaza” to stop and for “urgent and wider humanitarian aid” to be sent to the region.
“According to international law, the Palestinian liberation movement Hamas is fighting the occupation and has legitimate rights,” he said.

“Mr. President, according to our negotiations, Hamas is ready to release civilian prisoners; instead, the world should support the release of the 6,000 Palestinians held in Israeli prisons.”
Israeli officials have reportedly suspended a ground invasion in the Gaza Strip aimed at crushing Hamas, in part to allow continued negotiations over the release of more than 200 hostages held by the jihadists.
The captives are believed to include 10 Americans after two were released by Hamas last week.
Tehran has long funded terrorist groups across the Middle East and helped plan and sign off on the October 7 multi-pronged attack by Hamas that killed more than 1,400 people, including at least 33 Americans, the Wall Street Journal reported.

Conservatives were not impressed by the decision to grant Abdollahian a visa to enter the US.
“The president may not want to set a red line, but the Islamic Republic of Iran is certainly not afraid,” ex State Department Spokesperson Morgan Ortagus said to X. “In our land. While they plan to kill cabinet officials.”
“It’s unbelievable that we’re giving these terrorists visas,” said pseudonymous commentator AG Hamilton. “Catch him on the spot. Then exchange him for a hostage in Gaza.”
“This man is threatening us, while in our country, because his regime has actively attacked Americans – right after the Jewish genocide that the regime says planned and financed, which killed dozens of US citizens,” said Fox News Radio host Guy Benson.

National Security Council spokesman John Kirby told reporters Thursday that the US had “authorized” Iran’s foreign minister to attend a UN General Assembly vote on a resolution calling for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.
Kirby added that the US “will certainly take advantage of the opportunity” in allowing Tehran’s foreign minister into the country, but has no control over the meeting hosted by the UN secretary general “at the foreign minister level.”
“We hope that others at the UN take the opportunity to ask hard questions of him and what his country is doing to support these militia groups and what his country is doing to support Hamas and Hezbollah,” Kirby stressed.
“This is an opportunity for world leaders in New York to make their perspectives and concerns known directly to Iran’s foreign minister.”

In January 2020, the Trump administration denied a visa to then-Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif, preventing him from attending a UN Security Council meeting.
Amir-Abdollahian issued a similar warning after a rocket exploded at a hospital in Gaza City last week, declaring that “Time is RUNNING OUT!” Israel.
“After the terrible crimes of the Zionist regime in the bombing and massacre of more than 1,000 innocent women and children in hospitals, it is time for global humanitarian solidarity against this false regime more hated than ISIS and its killing machine,” he posted on X.
The Iranian embassy in Damascus, Syria also posted a “time is up” message in Hebrew and Arabic on their X account.
US intelligence officials later determined with a “high confidence” assessment involving video footage, photos and geolocation devices that the rocket had been launched by Palestinian Islamic Jihad.
Subsequent low-confidence assessments also reported between 100 and 300 Palestinian casualties, far fewer than the number initially reported.
