Elon Musk’s offer to provide Starlink satellite internet service to help organizations in Gaza amid the ongoing conflict has raised concerns in Israel.
Israel’s Communications Minister, Shlomo Karhi, expressed concern that Hamas, which is considered a terrorist group, could misuse the technology for nefarious purposes.
He suggested Musk consider tying aid to the release of Israeli prisoners. In response, Musk emphasized his commitment to humanitarian use and safety checks.

Tesla founder and billionaire Elon Musk’s offer to help Gaza with internet service has sparked concern in Israel.
In a recent post on X, Israeli Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi expressed concern, stating: “Israel will use all available means to combat this. HAMAS will use it for terrorist activities. There’s no doubt about it, we know, and Musk knows it. HAMAS is ISIS.”

Maybe Musk is willing to align it with the release of our kidnapped babies, sons, daughters,… https://t.co/pRNOlnINbZ

He mentioned possible conditions for the help, adding, “Maybe Musk will be ready with the release of our kidnapped babies, sons, daughters, parents. All of them!”
“At that time, my office will sever all ties with Starlink,” Karhi said.
Musk responded to the post, insisting he was “not that naive.” He continued, “According to my records, no Starlink terminal is trying to connect from Gaza. If there is, we will take extraordinary measures to verify that it is used *only* for purely humanitarian reasons. Additionally, we will conduct security checks with both the US and Israeli governments before turning on even one terminal.”
Gaza Has Been Cut Off From The World And Emergency Communications Can’t Be Reached

Musk’s promise to provide aid to Gaza by offering Starlink satellite internet service to help organizations in the region comes at a very important time, as communications and connections have been severely disrupted in Gaza due to the ongoing conflict with Israel.
The outages stemmed from Israeli bombardment and ground incursions into Gaza, disrupting internet and cellular services and hampering emergency response efforts.
As reported, the emergency phone number 101 was unreachable, meaning that ambulances and aid workers in the Gaza Strip could not be contacted. Many journalists were also eliminated from around the world.
According to international humanitarian groups, the blackout has worsened an already dire situation by preventing critical life-saving operations and preventing communication with their staff on the ground.
In an interview with BBC Radio, Mark Regev, a senior adviser to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, stated that “in military operations carried out by the British army, the American army, it is often standard behavior to disrupt your enemy’s communications.”
He mentioned that he was waiting for a “full briefing” from the Israeli military to understand the cause of the communication blackout.
It is not known if there is a Starlink Terminal in Gaza

Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez initially criticized the loss of telecommunications and internet access in Gaza, calling it “unacceptable.”
In response to his concerns, Musk announced that “Starlink will support connectivity to internationally recognized aid organizations in Gaza.” He specifically mentioned the UN as one of the organizations that would benefit from this support.
So far, there has been no official confirmation from Starlink regarding the provision of its services in Gaza, apart from Musk’s post.
According to street wall journalit remains to be determined whether there are Starlink terminals available in Gaza, which are essential for satellite internet connections.
Besides, Tech Crunch reports that discussions have taken place with SpaceX regarding the potential use of Starlink services in areas bordering conflict zones.
Elon Musk’s Starlink Helps Maintain Internet Access In Ukraine Following Russian Invasion
MEGA
Similar to the current situation, Starlink satellites play an important role in maintaining internet access in certain regions following the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, even in the face of Russian attempts to disrupt it.
However, the Tesla CEO’s involvement with Starlink connectivity in the Ukraine conflict has sparked controversy due to the control he has over the situation.
Claims have been made that Musk shut down the Starlink network in Crimea during Ukraine’s attack on the Russian naval fleet in the past. Musk later stated that he refused to extend coverage over Russian-occupied Crimea, choosing not to allow his satellites to be used in Ukraine’s operations against Russian forces there.
