Israel’s UN ambassador Gilad Erdan called Hamas’ attack on Israel “unprecedented” on “Fox News Live” Saturday, comparing the violence to the tragedy of 9/11.
Erdan – whose family lives in Ashkelon, a city near Gaza – called Hamas terrorists “animals” and condemned the military group for killing civilians.
The attack began early Saturday morning, which coincided with a major Jewish holiday called Simchat Torah.
“Babies, women, old people were dragged out of their homes, held hostage,” explained Erdan. “Civilians were shot and most were massacred in cold blood walking the streets. This is something that, I mean, it’s really unprecedented,” he told Eric Shawn of Fox News.
Israeli officials estimate that at least 250 people have been killed in the conflict so far.
There were also 1,500 victims reported.

The Palestinian Authority has reported slightly lower numbers, reporting at least 232 dead and 1,700 injured.
The diplomat explained that because the population of Israel is smaller than that of the United States, the number of casualties is proportional to the lives lost on 9/11.
“We have already experienced 250 deaths [which is] like here, 7500 deaths,” explained Erdan. “We already have 1500 victims. It’s like 50,000 victims here in the United States.”

“This is our 9/11,” he added. “We are committed to change the equation, to destroy the old paradigm. These animals will pay a high price and they will know that this cruelty can no longer be done to our civilians.”
