Kesha Celebrates Feeling ‘Free’ After Split From Label & Management

Kesha seems to be celebrating her departure from the label Dr. Luke, Kemosabe Records, with a day at the beach. He publicly demonstrated the celebratory move in a video posted to social media, allowing his fans to participate.

The end of the singer’s contract with Kemosabe Records, a Sony Music subsidiary of RCA Records, follows the settlement of a protracted legal dispute between him and Luke earlier this year.

To commemorate her long-awaited departure from Kemosabe Records, Kesha uploaded a clip featuring her in a black top and aqua shorts. In the video, the “Take It Off” hitmaker is seen placing his phone on the sand of an unknown beach.

Satisfied with the settlement, he began running in the sand until he reached the ocean and dipped his toes in it. Across the short recording, set to Beach House’s 2015 track, “Space Song,” he wrote, “I haven’t felt this free since I was 18.”

The upload not only garnered over 57,000 likes from TikTok users but also got fans talking in the comments section.

“Congratulations you deserve your music is my childhood,” said one fan, while another noted, “You deserve freedom. Congratulations, welcome to a new chapter in your life!!” and a third shared, “Glad you’re feeling free and healed!”

The fourth person asserted, “THIS IS GREAT. I’ve been waiting for your FREE day,” and a fifth commented, “You’re so strong and you’re free, mom! yYu deserves nothing but the best. I love you to pieces.”

A few days before the big celebration, sources informed Diversity that Kesha’s contract with Dr. Luke, real name Łukasz Sebastian Gottwald, ended in December, following the release of his album “Gag Order” in May.

The music project marks the last album he is obligated to release under his five-album deal with Kemosabe Records. The statement shared with the outlet further revealed that Kesha has also parted ways with her management company, Vector Management.

“Jack Rovner confirms that, after 16 years, Kesha and Vector Management have amicably agreed to part ways, with love and respect,” the declaration read. Kesha followed up with her own statement, writing:

“My manager has been an unwavering supporter in helping me through the long legal battle that I have had for almost a decade. We have achieved many great successes and have shared an amazing part of my life with me. I am very grateful to them and always will be. Needing a fresh start in my life, we parted ways but I will forever be grateful for the run we had.”

During her tenure with the label, Kesha released five full-length albums, including her highly successful 2010 debut, “Animal,” which featured the hit single “Tik Tok,” and three EPs.

Her legal battle to end the contract stemmed from allegations of sexual assault against Luke, who has consistently denied the allegations. Finally, Kesha admitted that she did not fully remember the events of the evening.

“My search for spiritual validation led me away from religion and toward arbitrary career goals that I believed would make me feel whole — albums, cars, money, fame, houses, tours, Grammy awards. They’re all extraordinary, but they’re also a constant flow of transient energy, like a drug.”

He continued, noting, “Now, I’m at a place in my career where I feel complete, happy, and making art that has transformed my PTSD and trauma into something honest and beautiful.”

After reflecting on a period of isolation during the shutdown of the COVID-19 pandemic where she “lived a narcissistic life, self-involved for myself and my fans who fell around me,” Kesha admitted:

“At this point in my career, I’m physically unable to go into the studio and lie to myself and everyone else by making a very insincere, happy pop album filled with fun party songs. Whether I like it or not, the truth is emerging [on ‘Gag Order’] not reflected in the perfect love song, either. The part of me that I had neglected for so long — the negative emotions, after the COVID-19 pandemic — was present.”
