Israeli hostage Rimon Kirsht, who was hailed for ‘death stare,’ gave Hamas an ultimatum

Freed Israeli hostage Rimon Kirsht, who was praised for giving Hamas terrorists an “iconic” death stare, tried to give his captors an ultimatum when they came to free him – telling them they had to release her husband too or he would stay in Gaza.

“When they told him he was released, he didn’t want to go. He told them, ‘Either we go together, or I stay here, and nobody is released,'” Kirsht’s family member told Israel Hayom on Wednesday, a day after the 36-year-old was released on the fifth day of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas.

Kirsht was detained in the Gaza Strip for 53 days with her husband, Yagev Buchshtab, her relative explained.

“He was with Yagev during the entire detention. It’s easier for them,” they said.

Their Hamas captors, however, refused to allow the pair to walk freely side by side.

RImon Kirsht and Yagev Buchshtav were kidnapped by Hamas on Oct. 7.

“Hamas terrorists told him, ‘You have two options: Either be released willingly or we will drag you to the floor.’ They left him no choice,” lamented his lover.

Kirsht was later released along with 11 other hostages – including Merav Tal, who he was seen putting his arm around moments after bowing his head and giving one of the Hamas terrorists a pointed look.

As of Thursday morning, Buchshtab, 34, was still in Hamas custody.

“He wanted to tell us that he loved us,” the couple’s relative told Israel Hayom of the message Kirsht brought home from her husband.

“He looks thinner than before he was arrested,” they added about Kirsht’s condition.

“We are very happy and excited that our son-in-law is back. That he was finally home. We believe that Yagev will also return soon. Everyone will go home,” they concluded.

Kirsht and Buchstab were abducted from Kibbutz Mirim during Hamas’ deadly surprise attack on southern Israel on Oct. 7.

He was later featured in a video filmed by Hamas that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu publicly denounced as “brutal psychological propaganda” by the terrorist group.
