Israel could see more than 130 hostages held by Hamas finally freed and the terror group’s leader exiled in exchange for Israel’s withdrawal from Gaza under a new deal drawn up by Qatar, reports said.
Israel’s war cabinet is scheduled to meet on Wednesday to discuss a new proposal put forward by Qatari negotiators calling for the permanent isolation of Hamas from Gaza to restore peace in the Palestinian territories, according to the local Channel 13 News.
The agreement allegedly includes a provision for Hamas to gradually release all hostages remaining in Gaza as long as Israel agrees to a full withdrawal from the Peninsula.
Once Israeli troops and hostages leave, the top leadership of Hamas – which has ruled the region for 17 years – will also leave Gaza, the proposal reportedly states.
The potential deal is expected to face opposition from both sides as the conflict flares since the Oct. 7 Hamas terrorist attack.

Although Israel has repeatedly stated that the war in Gaza will not end without the total destruction of Hamas, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his war cabinet are facing mounting pressure to accept a deal that could end the months-long suffering of hostages still being held by Hamas.
The families of those detained have pleaded for a potential pathway to see the return of their loved ones.
The Hostages and Missing Families Forum, which has been demonstrating in Tel Aviv for weeks, called on the war cabinet to approve any deal proposed by Qatari negotiators, whose previous deal saw the freedom of more than 100 hostages in November.

“The report on the new deal that will be presented to the cabinet this afternoon gives some hope to families worried about the fate of their loved ones — who have suffered in the Hamas tunnels for almost 100 days and nights without food. , water, and life-saving medical treatment,” the forum said in a statement Wednesday.
“The war cabinet cannot be concerned with anything other than the return of those who were kidnapped,” he added. “We demand that they approve any deal that will lead to their immediate release alive!”
Along with Israel’s obvious skepticism, it remains unclear whether Hamas will agree to a proposal that would require the group to leave Gaza.

Ismail Haniyeh, the political leader of Hamas, has reiterated that it will only release the remaining hostages from Gaza once Israel agrees to release every Palestinian prisoner held in Israeli prisons.
“They will never get their prisoners back unless all our prisoners in the occupation prisons are released,” Haniyeh said during a conference in Qatar on Tuesday.
As Israel’s war cabinet meets, representatives from the Jewish state have arrived in Cairo to talk with Egyptian, Qatari and US negotiators about a possible ceasefire deal in Gaza.
The talks in Cairo will also focus primarily on getting Hamas to release more hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, the Times of Israel reported.
