Some of these big moments are fun while others just make us shake our heads and ask if this is real life.
SAG-AFTRA And The Writers’ Strike
MEGA
This year saw not one, but two, major Hollywood strikes.
In May, the Writers Guild of America went on strike over a labor dispute with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. It is the biggest disruption to TV and film production since the COVID-19 pandemic. In July, the actors joined the writers, making the industry somewhat dark. A resolution was reached in November and everyone went back to work.
The Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists joined the strike, making it the first time since 1960 that the two unions joined in a strike. This strike is the first time film and television performers have gone on strike since 1980.

Two huge tours are taking over the music scene in 2023: Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour and Beyoncé’s Renaissance Tour.
Many fans spent time waiting in line at Ticketmaster for their chance to see Beyoncé’s highest-grossing tour to date. In addition to vivid and stunning costumes, dance routines and unforgettable experiences, Beyoncé’s daughter Blue Ivy also amazed fans with her dance performance with her famous mother!

And then there’s Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, which became the first tour to ever exceed a billion dollars in revenue. The three-hour concert sold out in every arena it visited.
If you missed any of the tours, you’re in luck! Both can be seen on film!
And speaking of Swift and the epic 2023, this is the year she met and started dating Kansas City Chiefs player Travis Kelce. Since the story is still being written, check back next year to see how it goes.
A Terrifying Journey To The Titanic In The Titan Submarine
MEGA
The story caused the world to go into lockdown for a few days in June.
Five people, who paid $250,000 each to travel in the sunken ship to see the wreckage of the Titanic up close, left everyone confused and worried when the sunken Titan disappeared with a low oxygen supply.
After searching for the missing submarine for several days, it was discovered that the Titan had exploded. The remains of the submarine were later found at the bottom of the North Atlantic Ocean.
During and after this tragedy, a lot of news, from informative to showing the ridiculous side of the experience, including using an unbranded PlayStation controller to control the sub, and how the door was closed from the outside and closed tightly, filled everyone’s days and media feeds social.
It’s Barbie’s World And We’re Just Living In It!
MEGA
Summer 2023 is filled with pink, feminism and nostalgia. A Barbie movie is taking over the box office and everyone’s conversation in 2023.
Not only did the film start many thought-provoking conversations about men vs. women, the film also made quite an impact at the box office by making more than $1 billion in ticket sales.
Whether you find yourself loving or hating the film, no one can argue that it doesn’t deserve a spot on the list of top pop culture moments of 2023.
Vegas Sphere And F1
MEGA
The city of Las Vegas is sure to have a stellar year in 2023. Not only are they introducing the world to the largest sphere on Earth that lights up in ways that people thought they could only imagine, but the city is also adding another annual highlight – the F1 race on the streets in Las Vegas.
People have flocked from near and far to catch a glimpse of the sphere whose exoskeleton is as entertaining as whatever show or movie is happening inside. Located just a block from the Vegas strip, the sphere stands 366 feet tall and 516 feet wide. It has the largest LED lighting with more than 1 million hockey puck-sized lights, and a venue that holds nearly 18,000 people.
F1 took over the entire city for months and when we say “take over” we mean it. Roads had to be repaved, pedestrian bridges built, barriers erected forcing people to buy tickets to watch the race cars fly up and down the Strip during the multi-day event. While many locals weren’t too happy with the way everything played out, it seemed like many were happy with the outcome. F1 will return to Vegas every November to repeat the excitement for at least the next 9 years.
Tupac’s Murder Case Cracked!
MEGA
After 27 years of no answers as to who was responsible for the murder of iconic rapper Tupac in Las Vegas, a break finally happened this year. Tupac’s 1996 murder, which happened just a few blocks from the Vegas Strip, won’t be solved until 2023.
Over the summer, authorities in Nevada announced they had made an arrest in the case. Duane “Keffe D” Davis, a former gang leader and one of the last surviving witnesses to the killings, has been charged with murder for allegedly planning a drive-by shooting.
Davis has been held at the Clark County Detention Center in Las Vegas without bail since his arrest. His trial is set to begin in early June 2024.
