‘It’s racist and it’s gross’: DEI boss faces Ohio state probe over Forbes article on ‘decentering whiteness’

A Diversity, Equity and Inclusion consultant is facing a state investigation in Ohio after writing an article for Forbes about “destructive whiteness”.

Column by Janice Gassam Ascre, who heads the firm BWG Business Solutions, was criticized by Ohio Senator JD Vance when he announced an investigation into whether he or his business ever received taxpayer money.

“I just finished with this—. It’s racist and it’s vile,” the senator said posted on Xas he shared the Forbes Ascre column.

Vance said the outlet “should be ashamed of themselves for publishing it,” and added that he “directed my staff to investigate whether his ‘business’ received any public money from Ohio.”

Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy also called Ascre’s column “racism without the possibility of reverse racism.”

In his column, Ascre talks about dismantling a system that prioritizes “white dominant culture to the detriment of non-white groups and cultures.”

He argues that this system needs to be dismantled in the US workplace, as it contributes to “inequality and injustice within” organizations.

“It has been given many names, including the ‘white gaze’ and ‘whiteness as default,'” Ascre wrote.

“Because white-centrism is often left unchecked and unchecked, equity and justice continue to elude organizations.”

He later advocated for education, objectivity and accountability in the workforce.

Responding to Vance’s criticism of the article, Ascre suggested the senator “didn’t know” what he was talking about.

“I will say this: It’s clear that the senator now knows what destructive whiteness really means and how it’s about the system of whiteness and not one white person or white people,” he told Fox News Digital.

“I explain what whiteness means in the workplace in my book of the same name, which I am happy to send to senators and to others. [who] confuse.”

He also posted a screenshot of a Fox News story about the backlash he faced for the column with a crying/laughing emoji.

Forbes did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Friday.
