Jameela Jamil Credits ‘Sex Scenes’ For Dropping Out Of Auditioning For ‘You’

Jameela Jamil has opened up about why she didn’t pass her audition for the fourth season of Netflix’s hit series “You.”

The actress admitted that her value of not contradicting herself was why she was dropped from the running to star as the show’s main antagonist, Penn Badgley. One can only assume that he would not make the same decision if he had a second chance today, as the series has become one of the hottest to watch on Netflix, with a 94% rating from Rotten Tomatoes.

Jameela Jamil withdrew from the ‘You’ audition because of various sex scenes in the script

As someone who defends what he believes in, it is not surprising that Jamil’s decision not to participate in the audition for the role in “You” was influenced by his beliefs. The “Good Place” star recently admitted to Badgley, Nava Kavelin and Sophie Ansari on their “Podcrushed” podcast that she turned down an opportunity to appear on the show because she doesn’t “do sex scenes.”

The activist had started by mentioning that she had never been the type to “justify myself” partly due to “deep childhood sexual trauma.” He then said:

“In general, I think I protect myself enough that way. Like, I don’t do sex scenes. Actually, I should be auditioning for the latest season of your show. My character was supposed to be quite sexy, and I pulled out of the audition because I was so shy about something sexy that I couldn’t do.”

Jamil, however, felt momentary regret after Badgley publicized his request to appear in fewer sex scenes in the psychological thriller because he didn’t know that “there were boundaries we could draw.”

ICYMI, Badgley revealed on the same podcast earlier this year that he had asked the show’s actress, Sera Gamble, to limit her sex scenes in season four. Chief, who made a name for himself on “The Young and The Restless,” stated at the time:

“This is actually a decision I made before I took the show. I don’t think I’ve ever said it publicly, but one of the main things was, Do I want to put myself back on the career path where I’ve always been [the] romantic lead?”

Unfortunately, his choice drew a public backlash, prompting him to clarify that he was not referring to the “end product” but to Hollywood’s “history of blatant exploitation and abuse”. He also admitted that his decision might affect the projects he chooses to sign in the future.

In addition to putting his foot down on sex-related projects, Jamil made headlines last week after inviting several female celebrities to attend the Met Gala, mainly because it was honoring the late Karl Lagerfeld.

For those who don’t know, in addition to being one of the most decorated fashion designers in history, the late German has a knack for taking controversial photos that are racist, fatphobic and misogynistic.

The character trait is one that the model believes should prevent famous female feminists from respecting her, The Blast revealed. Taking to Instagram to insult Gala attendees for “selective cancellation culture,” “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law” wrote:

“Last night, Hollywood and fashion said the quiet part loudly when many famous feminists chose to celebrate at the highest level, a man who is so openly cruel to women, too [sic] obese people, to immigrants, and to survivors of sexual assault.”

“Suddenly, your appetite for finding someone’s tweets when they were 12 is gone. Nobody has perfect morals, least of all me, but Jesus Christ, we have a year to make amends here and not give the highest honor possible to a famous fanatic,” added the “Legendary” judge. Continuing in the post’s caption, Jamil insisted that the discussion went beyond Lagerfeld, declaring:

“This is about showing how the culture of selective cancellation in liberal politics, in the most blatant way to date. It’s about showing why people don’t trust liberals. Because of slick tactics and double standards like this.”

He later claimed that even “the public” was “fully complicit in suppressing the truth” during the event, which was held on May 1. The “Marry Me” actress declared that if things continue like this, no one should “be surprised when we lose the next election.”
