In his post, Curtis praised him for his impact on the lives of millions of Americans and his role in “helping future generations achieve their dreams.”

Sharing a photo of them sitting together on a sofa with Lear wrapping his arm around her shoulder, Curtis lamented how “a great man is gone.”

“Norman Lear dies so ALIVE! Working and wondering until the end how he can add to the experience of art, family, and democracy,” he continued. “He was surrounded by love and laughter and his deep belief in the American dream and possibilities and founded @peoplefor_ an organization that I hope you will donate to today in his honor.”

The actor went on to reminisce about how he got hold of the very limited 1776 Declaration of Independence document that gave few Americans the chance to “see the document that was the beginning of our country.”

He also noted that they worked together on projects before his death and went on to call him a “great example” to him and millions of others.

“What a life. We will continue! Thank you, Norman Lear!” the actor concluded.

Born on July 27, 1922, Lear is widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in American television history. With a career spanning more than six decades, his impact helped shape the cultural conversation through funny sitcoms that tackled social issues.
