Jana Kramer posted a black-and-white photo to social media of herself wearing cut-off denim shorts, a black bikini top and an oversized white shirt. “If it was mine to do over again, I’d let you stand there instead. “This is a very difficult photo for me to look at,” he began. “One might look at this and see two smiling faces. A daughter with her mother. But what lies beneath that smile is something I still struggle to talk about to this day.”

She continued, “I don’t remember the reasons I told people when I was flying home to get away from my abuser about the cuts and scrapes on my shoulders and arms, or why my ribs hurt. Kramer says he was manipulated into thinking no one would believe him and that the reason he was beaten or choked was because he was bad and he deserved it.

“For years I’ve held onto that belief and one day I’ll talk more about the abuse that followed that one and the pattern that continued, but honestly it’s been a journey and one I’m still trying to figure out. It’s not an abusive relationship. last,” he continued. “One of the hardest rocks I threw in the river when I was on location was the ‘I deserve to be abused’ rock because that’s what I thought for so long.
