This year, the activist has four films scheduled for release, including the upcoming comedy “Book Club: The Next Chapter,” which will hit theaters on May 12. In an interview with PEOPLEthe iconic star expressed how much he cherishes his friendship with his co-stars in the film.

The “On Golden Pond” actor explained that he feels the happiest he’s ever been and credits female friendships and living authentically. The British Academy Film Award winner shared that filming the sequel to the 2019 hit romantic comedy with friends Diane Keaton, Candice Bergen and Mary Steenburgen in Italy was “a dream come true.”
She noted that their bond was “everything I imagined a female friendship could be,” adding, “When I was younger, there was an assumption that women were the good kind and that four stars working together wouldn’t work because they would compete, and it’s not true.”
The Oscar-winning star said, “We’re friends, and we love working together, and we help each other when we need to.” Fonda, who underwent chemotherapy for non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma last year and is now in remission, remains optimistic and determined to live life to the fullest. He explained:
“There have been tragedies and difficult things in my life. But I never bowed to them. I persevered all my life.”
Even though he’s living his best life, that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have moments of regret. The “Grace and Frankie” actress opened up about her regrets about her past parenting decisions.
Reflecting on her struggles with motherhood, the “Adjustment Period” star shared that she felt she lacked the skills necessary to be a better mother to her children when they were young. However, through her organization, the Georgia Campaign for Teen Pregnancy Prevention, she gained more knowledge and insight into motherhood.
