The NFL had asked the “Diamonds” singer to perform at the Super Bowl in 2019, but he declined out of solidarity with Colin Kaepernick.

At the time, Kaepernick protested police brutality against people of color by kneeling during the national anthem at an NFL game, drawing the ire of then-President Donald Trump and his supporters.

The NFL then created rules that penalized players and/or teams for protesting the national anthem.

In a 2019 interview with Vogue, Rihanna said, “I wouldn’t dare do that. For what? Who benefits from that? Not my person. I just can’t sell. I cannot be an enabler.”

“There are things in that organization that I do not agree with at all, and I will not go and serve them in any way,” he added.
