With Maui’s death toll rising to over 100 and thousands still fearing if they can rebuild their homes, Jason Momoa is disgusted with people spreading false and malicious information.
In this age of online scams, it seems that some are trying to take advantage of the situation, so Momoa warned everyone to be aware and send help only to registered verified links.

Actor Jason Momoa faced the camera in a sombre mood, wearing a Harley-Davidson shirt and told his fans that there were some people on Instagram, pretending to be him, asking for donations. After a pause, he declared, “Pure evil, in my opinion.”
He also stated, emphatically that he will not ask for money from anyone and instead posts and reposts information on his Instagram handle about the right place people can donate, if they want, whether money or material.
He reiterated the same in his caption as well, “Any person or account contacting asking for monetary donations on my behalf is NOT ME. It is heartbreaking and disgusting to know that there are people trying to take advantage of this tragedy.”
Momoa also praised everything Lahaina Ohana Venmo is doing, because it is, according to Momoa, “the best place to support the Maui community affected by the wildfires RIGHT NOW. Every donation goes directly into the hands of the families affected by the fires.”
Here’s what Momoa had to say, with a link in the caption to learn how to help grief-stricken Lahaina residents.
Fans Stand With Star, Confirm His Story

Many people who follow Jason Momoa on Instagram, seem to have received several scam messages with many friend requests from impersonators or other scammers pretending to be part of Momoa’s team.
Wrote one Instagram user, “I’ve gotten like 20 – 30 Jason Momoas since I started following. Now these horrible people are using this tragedy to play their game and take advantage of people. Celebrity impersonators need to be toned down. No one will asking for money in DMs. See Jason here doing it publicly.”
Another follower who had a similar experience also commented, “Thanks for posting this! I commented 2 times on your post and then I got 37 friend requests plus 2 requests saying it was part of your personal team, Nancy and Sandra! Look out for yourselves and most importantly our fellow Hawaiians/Polynesians!! Respect! Oh God hurry up!!”
More Hawaiians scattered around the world expressed their disgust and sadness, many said they would also like to set up a donation fund for their friends and relatives who are suffering, but there are so many scams online that this does not work anymore.
More fans are upset with the star who has done everything she can to spread the right information and resources, so that help can reach where it is needed most. One fan commented, “I’m sorry people tried to take advantage of you. They can really suck. Thank you for caring and being there to share how people can help. Keep being yourself. I can see your raw emotions here. I wish I could hug you tight.”

There is also a lot of misinformation being spread about the tragedy and the ongoing relief efforts. For example, there is fake news that if people from West Maui call FEMA, their “livable” land can be confiscated, leaving them homeless. This is not true – all FEMA can do is come and survey the property and the damage sustained to see what kind of assistance homeowners may need to make their homes livable, safe and clean.
Although it’s a rebroadcast, Jason Momoa is trying his best to use his social media to spread all the right information about Maui, as he tells people to let West Maui be in peace to accept the tragedy, but all of Maui is not closed and happy when visitors come and support local businesses.
This is again because as Aquaman said, the effort is still not over, since the death toll has increased to 110 people.
