Segel, who currently stars in the Apple TV+ series “Shrink,” reflected on his post-sitcom journey and shared his honest sentiments. Although the show propelled him into the spotlight and led to starring roles in films like “This Is 40,” “The Muppets,” and “Get Him To The Greek,” he admitted that he was “very unhappy” by the end of his film. held a position on “How I Met Your Mother.”

The 43-year-old star reflected on his experience with the famous ending of “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” to illustrate his point, saying, “I had to fight hard to put the Dracula puppet music at the end of the movie.” He compared the process to pushing a rock up a hill.
Segel continued, “It’s complicated. Part of that equation comes down to the point where you ask yourself, ‘What’s worth trading my time for? What would I give for nine months or three years?’”
He’s Having an ‘Existential Crisis’

Following the conclusion of “How I Met Your Mother” in 2014, Segel found himself struggling with a deep sense of confusion. He frankly described this period as an “existential crisis” during an interview with Vanity Fair in May 2023.
Segel revealed that after the show ended, he embarked on a five-year journey to find a sustainable and fulfilling relationship with his work.
He acknowledges the complex nature of the entertainment industry, likening it to an unpredictable and “abusive” relationship.
“It can also be quite an abusive relationship because when he loves you, he loves you so much and it feels like love. But when it causes you, it’s kind of absent and then it comes back and I can’t stop acting, you know?” he has explained.
‘What Would Edward Norton Do?’

The “Sex Tape” actor admitted to struggling with uncertainty about his ability as a dramatic actor. He recounted his experience playing David Foster Wallace in the movie “The End of the Tour” stating, “the level of difficulty doesn’t look like a Saturday Night Live sketch, when you get the glasses and the bandana and you’re saying the words, it feels so high .”
He continued, “I also don’t have a set-up system because you set up differently for comedy. There’s a lot of improvisation in the way we come up, and it’s a big part of the dialogue.”
Segel shared that he sought inspiration from actors like Edward Norton to overcome his fears and insecurities. “What would Edward Norton do? I got a dialect coach and I did all these things that I hear you do if you’re a real actor. But man, I’m scared,” he added.
