The father of notorious serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer has died in hospice care in Ohio at the age of 87.
Lionel Dahmer died of unknown causes while in custody in Medina County, Ohio, the local health department confirmed to The Post Tuesday.
The exact date of his death is unknown.
Lionel, a chemical analyst, said he was always stuck with his son, even though Dahmer – nicknamed the Milwaukee Cannibal – killed 17 people.
She told Oprah in 1994: “I still love my son. I will always stick to it – I always have.”
His death comes nearly a year after his wife Shari died Jan. 13 at a nursing home in Seville — about 25 miles outside of Akron.
The father-of-two was a regular visitor to see his son in prison until he was beaten to death with an iron bar by fellow inmate Christopher Scarver in 1994, less than a year after he was convicted of his brutal crime.
Lionel’s carer told The Sun in 2022 the old man was still “furious” every time Scarver’s name was revealed.

“He’s still very angry about it,” said Jeb, his caretaker at the time. “As far as I know, and the last time I spoke to Lionel, he believed the guards looked the other way and let it happen.”
Lionel had divorced Dahmer’s mother, Joyce Flint, in 1978 when Jeffrey was around 18 and his brother David was 12.
He wrote the book “A Father’s Story” which tells how he has raised Dahmer from his perspective and tries to examine what caused him to commit the crimes he committed. He admits to being aware of his children’s drunkenness, aimlessness and fascination with dead animals.
He also said he had made many attempts to contact her and encourage her to live a normal life, but could not find the reason why she became the killer on his account.
“At first, I couldn’t understand how he got this far down the continuum. I mean, we’re all on a continuum, we all do bad things, we all sin,” Lionel told Dr. Phil in an interview that won’t air until 2022.
“He’s at the extreme end of the continuum. I couldn’t at first understand how he could do that.”
Despite leading a private life, Lionel couldn’t escape his son’s name, especially after Netflix dropped the murder series.

“Anything to do with Dahmer blows up. It seems like every time a movie or series comes out, that’s when a lot of the craziness starts happening with the fans and fan girls,” Jeb told the outlet.
Lionel has also considered suing major streaming platforms for glamorizing his son’s crimes in the drama series and for not contacting his son’s legal team to gain access to the tapes used in the documentary.
