Jen Shah commemorated the milestone year in her prison with a “Barbie” costume alongside a heartfelt reflection.
Despite lawsuits over Bravo’s “black eye” rumors, the former “Real Housewives of Salt Lake City” star remains steadfast in her journey of self-discovery.
Jen Shah Embraces Growth in Prison as ‘Adventure Barbie’
Exactly one year after his entry into FPC Bryan Prison in Texas, the TV personality offers an insight into his transformative journey.
Accompanying Shah’s thoughts is a photo taken during an important event in September: a Barbie-themed hair contest held inside prison walls. The image depicts the reality TV star as “Adventure Barbie” and her fellow inmate Ashley Rhea Johnson (“AJ”) as “Slumber Party Barbie,” both exuding grit and spirit despite their circumstances.
In a lengthy statement shared exclusively with PEOPLE, Shah’s words echoed with humility and gratitude.
“I have been away from my family for a year. The depth of my pain is unrelenting and indescribable,” Shah wrote. “However, throughout this painful process, God has significantly increased my humility, gratitude, and courage.”
The star reflected on his ongoing journey of personal growth and self-discovery, admitting that there was much he had to learn.
In his own words, “I still have a lot to learn while I’m here at FPC Bryan, I’m thankful God has given me a better foundation to appreciate His undivided love and blessings to fight for that moment of happiness Every day.”
Acknowledging the plight of her fellow prisoners, the mother of two admits to finding solace in perseverance and strength from their stories.
“When I entered FPC Bryan, I wholeheartedly believed that no one had suffered as much as I had. I quickly realized that so many women here struggle and overcome far worse conditions than I do. Their resilience is inspiring and truly humbles me.”
Throughout his incarceration, Shah credits therapy, his unwavering faith, and the support of his fellow inmates for aiding his journey of self-discovery and resilience.
She also shared the invaluable advice given to her by her husband of nearly 30 years, Sharrieff, and the profound impact it had on her journey towards finding joy in the midst of adversity.
“My husband tells me every morning that I have to fight for my happiness. She said it takes unimaginable courage to smile, and find joy and laughter even in my circumstances. This photo was taken almost eight months after I surrendered. My husband’s advice finally seeped into my heart and I found the courage to smile, to find genuine joy and laughter.”

His unwavering dedication to her well-being, including arranging a heartfelt birthday celebration for her 50th birthday underscores the depth of their bond.
In a clip shared on his wife’s Instagram page, Coach Shah gave an insight into Jen’s reaction to the outpouring of love and well wishes on her momentous birthday. He revealed that he contacted 50 of Jen’s closest family and friends to write birthday messages, which were then sent to her.
The former American football player shared that his wife’s reaction was overwhelming, describing how she “cried and cried tears of joy and appreciation for at least six minutes” during their limited 10-minute conversation.
Gen Shah Reportedly Prepared For Legal Fight Over Black Eye Allegation
Amid Shah’s current five-and-a-half sentence, tensions are running high in the world of reality television. Following previews for Bravo’s highly anticipated reunion of “The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City,” a potential legal battle may be on the horizon.
In the teaser, host Andy Cohen leaves no stone unturned, answering the lingering question of whether Jen is responsible for Heather Gay’s black eye. Gay affirmation sets the stage for a tense showdown, hinting at effects that may go beyond the confines of the television screen.

However, Jen’s spokesperson quickly addressed the growing controversy, pointing out that the reality TV personality is closely monitoring the situation and is prepared to take legal action based on the language used in the reunion episode.
According to Jen’s rep, “If in the final cut of the three-part ‘RHOSLC’ reunion, Heather makes any direct reference to Jen Shah giving her a black eye, legal action will be taken by the Shah family against Andy Cohen, NBC Universal, Bravo, Shed Media, and Heather for slander and defamation.”
