Meet Jeremy Brown, Chicago Man Shot Dead in Restaurant Shooting
Chicago man Jeremy Brown was shot and killed in the 11600 block of South Halsted Street shortly after 11 a.m. Carlishia Hood, another Chicago-based woman had a fight at a restaurant with Jeremy as video became public view.
Carlisha’s son, 14, stayed in the car so she could make the short run, and she was in line at the Maxwell Street Express in Chicago. Jeremy and his girlfriend enter the restaurant while he is waiting in line, and an argument breaks out between Carlishia and Jeremy.
Since neither party knew the other, the altercation turned physical, and Jeremy was shown on film hitting Ms. Hood in the head several times. Brown’s girlfriend nearby laughed and supported his other half, which prompted Carlishia to text her son to go inside with the gun he was allowed to carry.
When the teenager shot Jeremy in the back, the restaurant, the victim fled. Jeremy was shot in the back again after Carlishia yelled at her son allegedly “to go after the victim and kill him.”
The suspect pulls up to the crime scene in a Lincoln Nautilus in a nighttime video. Carlishia got out of the vehicle and entered the Maxwell Street Food Express wearing a pink dress. Additionally, a white hoodie and shorts are seen on Carlishia Hood’s son in surveillance footage.
Carlishia and her son had never been arrested before. A separate video shows Jeremy Brown hitting Carlishia before shots were fired.
According to reports, Carlishia’s son pointed a gun at the victim and opened fire, forcing Jeremy to flee the scene. Jeremy was allegedly followed and shot by Carlishia’s son.
Jeremy was identified at the scene as having died from two gunshot wounds. Carlishia reportedly tried to grab the gun from her son’s hands after the initial shooting, but he allegedly pushed her away and continued to hold the firearm.
Will Shooter Jeremy Brown Face Murder Charges?
Initially, the “shooter” Jeremy Brown, Carlishia Hood, and her 14-year-old son turned themselves in to local authorities on June 21, 2023. They were initially charged with murder. One felony charge of aiding and abetting the delinquency of a minor was brought against the mother. Due to his young age, his unnamed son will be arraigned in juvenile court soon.
However, NBC Chicago reports that prosecutors said that the murder charges against Carlishia and her 14-year-old son have been dropped. According to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office, it is reviewing the evidence in the case against Carlishia Hood and her son, 14, and “based on emerging evidence” is seeking to drop all charges.
“Based on the facts, the evidence, and the law we were unable to meet our burden of proof in the prosecution of these cases,” the office said in a statement.
