Jessie J Opens Up About ‘Hardest’ Part Of Being A Mother

Jessie J, who’s always been an open book to her fans, is getting more candid about the not-so-bright side of motherhood.

The BBC Sound of 2011 awardee is a doting mother to her only son, Sky Safir Colman, who she welcomed in May with boyfriend Chanan Colman.

While being a parent is one of the best things that’s happened to Jessie, she recently opened up about the most challenging part of the responsibility, weeks after complaining about how it affects her sleep schedule.

Jessie J Says ‘Recovery’ Is The ‘Hardest Part’ Of Being A Mother

Jessie hosts a Q&A session on her Instagram Story where her curious followers ask about her life as a mother, including the ups and downs. A fan wanted to know the “hardest part of being a mom,” prompting the 35-year-old musician to reveal some of her challenges, noting that hers may be different than other moms.

“Recovery/fatigue,” he shared. “Despite being the best version of yourself in many areas, while trying to figure out who you are again. That was the hardest for ME. It’s different for everyone.”

Another fan then asked the “Laserlight” singer, “What has been the biggest surprise for you since becoming a mother?” She confessed that welcoming her son was her “biggest surprise,” which she will always be grateful for because she spent most of her life being told she would never have children.

Jessie, who suffered a miscarriage in 2021, added that she often had to tell herself to “drop my shoulders” and just enjoy every moment of being a mother.

Fortunately, she has her baby daddy enjoying every moment with her as he helps raise their son, except when he’s away, like earlier this month when Jessie was tasked with taking care of Sky alone. The “Bang Bang” musician lamented the situation at the time on his Instagram Story, admitting that he was exhausted from three nights in a row of raising their son alone.

She uploaded a photo of her son asleep in a crib along with a note revealing that the lack of sleep was causing her to feel more tired than usual. “Legit hasn’t slept in three days,” Jessie wrote. “Dad is gone so it’s all me. And he has turned into a clarinet snoring gremlin. Help.”

In subsequent updates, she showed support for other single parents, praising them for their tireless efforts in raising their children alone. In his words:

“Hugs to all the moms and dads doing it alone now. Daydreaming, tired, and doing my best. You’re the MVP.”

The “It’s My Party” singer also poked fun at her disrupted sleep routine, revealing that the situation caused her to make mistakes like accidentally giving Sky a bottle cap. Before her revelation, she opened up about receiving a breast pump and described it as “life-changing.”

Jessie looked very happy about the accessory as she was filmed dancing around the room, holding Sky. She also pointed out the practicality of the pump, saying: “I never knew before how amazing and beautiful but pumping and breastfeeding can be hard and tiring on your body, sleep and everyday life. I’m a mover, someone who doesn’t sit still, a very friendly woman.”

The mother of one later explained that she can “whip them up and put them anywhere and everywhere,” including “shopping, eating out, even at the doctor,” leading her to describe them as “LIFE savers.”

‘Who Are You’ Musician Gets Real About Inconsistency With Exercising After Pregnancy

This isn’t the first time the English singer has been candid about the rough parts of postpartum and motherhood. A few months after welcoming baby Sky, Jessie is back to working out and in the process becoming the subject of her fans’ admiration.

However, for good measure, the “Price Tag” singer shared with her community that she wasn’t very consistent with working out on her Instagram Stories. She mentioned that people often ask her how often she exercises based on her post, prompting her to reveal that she’s only done it three times since giving birth.

At the time of the update, her son was 14 weeks old. Jessie added that she never had a regular fitness routine, even before pregnancy, and never will.

However, the “Wild” frontman insists that he shows up where and when he can while focusing on just enjoying “being able to go, get my energy going, hang out with @chiefnaka, and explore this new body of mine.”
