A Wisconsin woman who ordered a book about Israel’s history from Amazon was shocked to open it this week to find the book had been defaced with a sticker that read “Free Palastine.”
When Madison’s mother Shira Goldman opened “Israel: A Simple Guide to the Most Misunderstood Country on Earth,” she saw the sticker, which included a fake barcode and a misspelling of Palestine.
“It was very disturbing and I felt violated,” Goldman told The Post.
Goldman, a Jew, feared that he was being targeted because of his faith.
He shared the disturbing discovery with people close to him and then took to Facebook to ask for advice.
Word spread through different Jewish moms’ groups, including Tribal Parenting and Moms Against College Antisemitism — which has exploded to nearly 50,000 members since its Oct. 26 creation.

In addition to speaking out against antisemitism, many members of this online community shared book recommendations to help understand the war in the Middle East following the Hamas terrorist attack on Israel on Oct. 7.
One of those books is usually Tishby’s. The Israeli actor and activist’s guide was published in 2021 but landed on the New York Times bestseller list last month.
Within hours of Goldman posting about his experience, a fellow member who worked for Amazon was able to find out who had damaged his book, and that person was subsequently fired.
He then delivered the new book to Goldman’s home the same day.

Apparently, it was the last copy of the book in the clock warehouse from Goldman’s house and an employee personally delivered it to him.
“A community comes together to help each other,” Goldman said.
Author Tishby also got wind of the incident and asked at X if this happens to anyone else. “This is unacceptable. I’m in touch with [Amazon Books] and they’re making sure this doesn’t happen again.”

Even Amazon CEO Andy Jassy called the attack on Israel “shocking and painful to watch” at X, some workers have urged more public support for Palestine, the Washington Post reported last month.
The company has received backlash for not releasing pro-Palestinian merchandise containing the controversial phrase “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free,” according to reports.
“We take this matter seriously and apologize to the customers and authors affected,” an Amazon spokesperson told the Post.
“We immediately launched an investigation into the damaged book, identified the person responsible, and that person no longer works at Amazon.” The company did not name the saboteurs.
