First Lady Jill Biden’s political front-runner was mocked on social media after she appeared to speak at a local high school in Utah, called Hunter High.
While visiting the Beehive State to attend a fundraiser for President Biden, the first lady stopped by a school in West Valley City, southwest of Salt Lake City, to visit the faculty and hear the school choir perform. During his visit, Biden – a former teacher for more than 30 years – spoke about the value of education and the importance of educators.
But observers on social media were disturbed by the rather unfortunate placement of the “Hunter High” sign during his speech, which recalled his son Hunter Biden’s struggle with drug addiction.
“Jill Biden trying to distract from her comments about Hunter’s drug abuse, and ending up under a giant banner that says ‘Hunter High,’ is straight out of an episode of VEEP,” wrote Angela Morabito, a spokeswoman for the Defense of Freedom Institute, in a post on X.
“You can’t make this up,” said Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Ariz. “Jill Biden spoke at a school called ‘Hunter High.’ What a fitting name!”
Hunter Biden’s past substance abuse is well documented. Her 2018 memoir, “Beautiful Things,” recounts her battle with addiction in detail.

The first son is now embroiled in a legal battle over federal firearms charges filed in the US District Court for the District of Delaware in October. Prosecutors allege Biden lied about his drug use in October 2018 on a gun purchase form.
He had admitted to struggling with cocaine addiction during that period in 2018, but his lawyer said he had not broken the law. Hunter Biden has since said he has stopped using drugs and is working to turn his life around.
Hunter Biden’s lawyer had filed a motion to dismiss the gun charge, but prosecutors opposed it on Tuesday, arguing the evidence against Biden was “overwhelming.” They said investigators found cocaine residue on a brown leather pouch used by Hunter Biden to store a gun.

Biden has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
But the courtroom drama added a layer of irony to Jill Biden’s Hunter High appearance, as did her recent appearance on MSNBC, where she defended Hunter from Republican criticism.
“I think what they did to Hunter was cruel. And I’m very proud of the way Hunter has rebuilt his life after addiction,” Jill Biden told MSNBC host Mika Brzezinski. “I love my son and it’s happened — it’s hurting my grandchildren and that’s what I’m really worried about, it’s affecting their lives as well.”

Social media users called the background of a “Hunter High” sign in Utah days after his comments ridiculous.
“Award should go to the early White House staff who organized the event for Jill Biden with signs like this,” Mollie Hemingway of the Federalist posted on X.
“As someone who does a lot of ‘advance’ work in politics, I really want to know who messed up & approved this podium sign for [First Lady Jill Biden],” says William J. Smith, a strategic communications professional based in New Jersey.
“Either that or they tricked us.”
