Jinger Duggar bravely addresses a traumatic childhood experience that left her struggling to adjust to the real world.
The TV personality and her family rose to fame after appearing on the reality TV show, “19 Kids And Counting,” which ran from 2008 to 2015 on TLC. The show features the Duggar family, who are staunch followers of the Institute on Basic Life Principles, founded by minister Bill Gothard.
Duggar has now likened her strict upbringing to the conservatorship of pop icon Britney Spears, which saw the singer placed under voluntary control by her father.

Speaking to Page Six, the mother-of-two opened up about her family’s controversial beliefs and how her struggle to break free from their stronghold reminded her of a certain pop icon, Spears.
Thanking her fans for standing by her with their support movement and hashtags that read, #FreeJinger,” she said, “I’m not disappointed with the ‘Free Jinger’ movement. He is a very good person. I’m sure the people who started it had the best intentions in mind and are probably still doing it today.”
He further revealed that he was not disturbed by the movement and thought that the public’s intention to help free him was very commendable. Adding, he said, “I have no hard feelings against anyone.”
Jinger goes on to reveal how she spent years bowing to tyrannical authorities under the teachings of now-disgraced minister Bill Gothard, founder of the Institute in the Basic Life Principles Church, where she grew up.
Opening a can of worms about the church, he said, “He built his teachings on fear, manipulation, superstition and control … so the way I look at God is that he’s waiting to hate me, he’s waiting to get me at any moment. “
“Even if I don’t know what God expects from me, I will be punished because he was just teasing me,” he added. The TV personality who finally left IBLP in 2017 revealed that he spoke out for other former followers who felt voiceless and current followers who felt trapped.
The acclaimed author compared her situation to Spears, who was a permanent victim of a conservatorship her father set up that saw her estranged father take complete control of her personal, medical and financial support.

In his words, “It’s interesting. I see people who are in the public eye and have stories and I can relate to them at a different point, maybe on a smaller scale. And I think that’s the beauty of it. You see that so many people have going through so much pain and hardship and just coming out on the other side, I want to say that we can come out stronger on the other side.”
Moving on with his new life and focusing on greater achievements, the 29-year-old encouraged, “Those things don’t have to define us moving forward. So for me, I look at all the things in the past and say, ‘Ok, now moving forward, how can I be the best version of myself that I can possibly be’”?
Extending his support to the one-time Grammy award winner, he said, “I’ll be interested to see it [Britney’s situation] again.”
As previously reported by The Blast, the TV personality opened up about how her life was consumed by fear because of the “harmful” teachings she was taught growing up. Sharing her experience during an exclusive interview, Duggar detailed how the “damaging” teachings of Gothard, who later came under fire for his sexual harassment scandal, affected her upbringing.
She said, “Fear was a big part of my childhood. I thought I had to wear only skirts and dresses to please God. The music with the drums, the places I went, or the wrong friendships could all bring harm.”
Giving more context to how fear has taken over his life, he added, “I thought I could be killed in a car accident on the way because I don’t know if God wants me to stay at home and read my Bible.”
